50% Of THE NEW MUTANTS May Be Reshot As Fox Looks To Add Multiple New Characters

Some additional details on the X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants delays have been revealed and it sounds like the latter is going to undergo some serious changes over the next few months...

Yesterday, we learned that X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been pushed back to February 14th, 2019 and The New Mutants is now coming even later than expected on August 2nd, 2019. This marks the second major delay for the latter project which was originally scheduled to come our way next month!

Now, Collider may have shed some further light on what's going on and things aren't sounding good for the Josh Boone helmed release. While the movie has been testing well, it's still not "scary" enough and even though the director was reportedly happy with the cut of The New Mutants he delivered, the reshoots taking place now are even more significant and at least 50% of the movie may be reshot.

It's also said that the studio is looking to add at least one or two new characters who are going to be present throughout the entire movie so we're not talking about the odd cameo here. Boone, meanwhile, has been having creative differences with the studio over some of these changes so it's no wonder The New Mutants has been delayed so significantly; what will become if it remains to be seen.

In the case of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the site adds that the biggest reason for the delay
are scheduling issues with bringing key cast members back who are busy with other projects and the fact that the studio will need time to complete certain visual effects for key scenes. So, it's not all bad news!

This movie just seems irrelevant

@CopperCrow - These characters are on the level of GOTG, in that they're not commercially known. GOTG vol.1 showed us that it was all about presentation. If it weren't for the character's charisma GOTG would have had a harder time overcoming the "why should I care about these characters," factor for the general audience.

I'm not sensing that charisma is important in this horror-based superhero X-Men film.

@CopperCrow - I don't really think that's a fair point. Yes the film looks disappointing but we have hardly seen anything from the cast of characters yet. They could have charisma.

@CopperCrow - not every movie is an adaptation of something. The characters don’t need to be popular at all for a movie to succeed. Hell, they don’t even need much charisma here. They give me a tight horror thriller with cbm elements, and I’ll be pretty damn happy.

@CopperCrow - When GOTG movie came out, even comicbook readers didnt know the property, New Mutants is a huge success comicobook title.

@xinstituto - I don't think that's an accurate statement at all. The GOTG team was based on comics that were being published at the same time and Annihilation had just happened. Arguably one of the best cross overs in the last ten years. This version of the New Mutant team is close to 30 years old and was never a huge successful title.

@KingGrimlock - It was a lot bigger than GOTG when I was a teenager.

Yours truly,

P.S. We watch comic book movies too.

@KingGrimlock - P.P.S. The vast majority of CBMs these days have their roots in stories that are WELL over 30 years olds.

Gosh darn know it all kids these days. Get off my lawn ;-D

@grendelthing - You didn't read my post or don't know what you're talking about. The film line up of Guardians only formed in the comics In 2008 by Dan Annette and Andy Lanning and of course the New Mutants were more popular in the early 80s as the Guardians didn't have an ongoing series dung that time. Also, the Guardians at that time were strictly cameos in Avengers or Fantastic Four and did not have any members of the film lineup. They smartly based the film on characters from Annihilation, which was a huge selling cosmic event for Marvel. If comic readers didn't know the properly, they definitely weren't real comic readers at all. So The Olds, as you say, might watch comic movies but apparently don't understand them or their backgrounds at all.

@grendelthing - I bought the 1982 graphic novel and read the comic book throughout the 1980s. I never quite got why Boone wanted to do this as a horror story. I could care less if this ever comes out.

This was on my "looking forward to" list for 2018. Maybe it can make that list for 2019 again, but for now all the hype I had is dead.

It's funny how many people on this site have the power to tell they quality of a film they have yet to see.

These people likely hate every Fox/Marvel film released, which is fine. You can have your own opinion, but your opinion is not fact. The only fact about it, is that it's your opinion. Don't let your opinion blind you of reality, and reality is majority critics, fans, and GA find majority Fox/Marvel(X-men at least) films to be high quality. I hate that the films are being delayed, but I trust they know what they are doing.

Also, while I'm not one to dictate what people do, why waste your time here? If you hate these film already, without even seeing them, then this article wasn't wrote for you; it's for people who are actually interested in seeing and enjoying them. Why put more money in Wilding's pockets? If you have some real constructive criticism for Fox, thats okay, but if your just here to talk shit, why?

Also i know you said xmen at least https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fantastic_four_2015

That leaves xmen 2, wolverine, xmen, logan, first class and xmen days of future past

4/6 Not great.

@RextheKing - I peronsally see it as a positive.

They recognise that there is a problem with films in their current state, and are making plans to fix them. The fact that they have delayed it so long, shows they aren't going to rush the reshoots.

So they are doing well, but there bad films are really really bad man.

@DeadCipher - You know how to count?

Positively reviewed Fox/Marvel films.
1. Xmen
2. X2
3. First class
4. Dofp
5. Wolverine
6. Logan
7. Deadpool

Negatively reviewed:
1. X3
2. Origins
3. Apocalypse
4-6. All F4

7>6 and 7>3 if you only focus on Xmen films.

@RextheKing - I personally thought xmen was just ok. None of this is really high quality i would argue.

I agree most xmen movies are good, but it isnt enough to say the majoirty of movies is "high quality"
