OFFICIAL: Josh Boone To Direct THE NEW MUTANTS Spinoff Focusing On Younger X-MEN
The New Mutants is the latest X-Men spinoff to join Deadpool, Gambit, and Wolverine 3, with The Fault In Our Stars helmer Josh Boone attached to direct.
Deadline reports that Fox has closed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars helmer Josh Boone to co-write and direct The New Mutants, yet another spinoff which will expand the world of the X-Men.
Specific plot details haven't been revealed at this stage, but it sounds like it will focus on a new crop of young characters. While X-Men: Apocalypse is introducing younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Storm, you have to imagine that they'll be taking over the main X-Men franchise. It wouldn't be that surprising to see them show up here though. Regardess, Boone is set to co-write with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner.
Boone has been linked to the big screen adatation of Stephen King's The Stand, while the site mentions that he's among those who have been considered for Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man reboot. He'll next direct The Vampire Chronicles, and it sounds like The Stand could come before The New Mutants.
"We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters," Kinberg said in a statement today.
