Deadline reports that Fox has closed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars helmer Josh Boone to co-write and direct The New Mutants, yet another spinoff which will expand the world of the X-Men

Specific plot details haven't been revealed at this stage, but it sounds like it will focus on a new crop of young characters. While X-Men: Apocalypse is introducing younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Storm, you have to imagine that they'll be taking over the main X-Men franchise. It wouldn't be that surprising to see them show up here though. Regardess, Boone is set to co-write with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner.

Boone has been linked to the big screen adatation of Stephen King's The Stand, while the site mentions that he's among those who have been considered for Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man reboot. He'll next direct The Vampire Chronicles, and it sounds like The Stand could come before The New Mutants.

New Mutants Movie Lands Writer/Director

"We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters," Kinberg said in a statement today.

Fox has the ability to take an X-Men property and actually make the characters look like the X-Men. They made Deadpool look beyond awesome, so there is no reason for these characters to get shafted.

As long as it has Xavier I'm cool. You can't make a X-men movie without Professor X, and if it's MacAvoy or Stewart I don't care, I like them both. I would love it if they dare to unleash Onslaught.

You can't have New Mutants without Cable. He's coming. Sooner than later, hopefully.

@mgeoff88

Deadpool and this are likely a set-up for that. Since the New Mutants become X-Force for the most part.

LOL! That Marvel logo is going to oversaturate things, just like DC is over doing it on television.

And worrying about costumes for this is stupid because Singer isn't directing this. Costumes are for sure happening.

My brain is on overload. The possibilities are endless...

Boom-Boom
Cannonball
Wolfsbane
Shatterstar
Copycat (as Domino, lol)

And Cable has to be in it. They MUST fight Stryfe at some point (just because he's awesome), and Deadpool needs to make an appearance (because he debuted there)

Someone ask Liefeld what he thinks!!!

I had to read again the news because I thought it was about the x-men show!
Anyway this new direction is not surprising at all: Wolverine is going to say goodbye as well as Old Magneto and Old Xavier.
Apocalypse will introduce new genration of mutants well known but in the 80s. But I think there will be so timey wimey thing to bring them into our modern days.

I've honestly never read into the New Mutants, Guess I have to add that to the list with Inhumans. lol smh
