I had always hoped this was the direction it would go. It didn't even feel all that connected to the FoX-Men franchise anyway.
Origame
Origame - 9/2/2019, 3:10 AM
Why go through this at this point? I mean, disney didn't spend money on this. Either throw it on disney plus or just scrap it all together. Most people will know the x men connection means nothing since we're getting a new mcu x men soon anyway. Why bother releasing it if you're just gonna deliberately tank it?
Dacci
Dacci - 9/2/2019, 6:03 AM
@Origame - All I can think is that maybe Feige looked at it and thought certain parts worked but others didn't. I really like the cast for this and maybe he thinks this could actually be the introduction the mutants need.
Himura
Himura - 9/2/2019, 3:17 AM
Yet "mutants" is literally in the title of the film
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 9/2/2019, 3:27 AM
@Himura - Titles are the easiest things to change about a movie. They could call it "Super Freaks" or "Curse of the Demon Bear" and nothing about the movie is affected.
Himura
Himura - 9/2/2019, 1:58 PM
@Spock0Clock - Except its not. They'd need to file a bunch of new trademarks, copyrights, and who knows what merchandise they might've released with the New Mutants logo everywhere. Its easier to edit the film than change all the marketing material alone.

This is still a thing ?

Now just retitle the movie and release it as an original IP.
NakedAvenger

Watch how we will have people who worked on the film say the original cut was SO MUCH BETTER.

Luke Skywalker. Spidey. New Mutants.

Who's next?

sickboy76
sickboy76 - 9/2/2019, 3:36 AM
@NakedAvenger I'd say the opposite, fact that they're releasing movie without references to fox men universe means that there's more chance that Feige and company are fitting it into the MCU, which means that this cast might have jobs after this.
sickboy76
sickboy76 - 9/2/2019, 3:40 AM
@SpockOClock I think that it's still going to be called new mutants. I'm guessing that Feige and company see something worth keeping which is why they're removing fox men references and dialling back mutants whilst keeping the cast. Imagine magik as Doctor stranger's preotege after dealing with crazy Wanda?
WeaponXCII
WeaponXCII - 9/2/2019, 3:43 AM
Well, without that mess of a continuity weighing it down, at least it has a slightly better chance of being good- but we all know there’s no way Feige brings it into the MCU unless it is.
VicSage
VicSage - 9/2/2019, 3:49 AM
Didn't even know this was an option. Considering that reshoots hadn't taken place, if they were going to spend a dime on it, might as well fold it into the MCU if there's anything salvageable there. Otherwise, just release it on Disney+ or Hulu and be done with it.

Funny.

Marvel Studios' first "mutant" entry will be one they would have retooled from FOX before release. Crazy times we live in.

Finally saw X-menDP last night. Not bad. Not as bad as Apocalypse anyway. Action scenes were cool. Finally a decent Cyclops. Magneto stole it ….again. 3 stars outta 5 for me.

Release it on Netflix
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 9/2/2019, 5:07 AM
@SomePeople - I don't believe for an instant that Kevin Feige has been coveting the X-Men for fifteen years only to let a one-off horror movie that Fox didn't know what to do with become the foundation for the franchise in the MCU.
DemonTweeks
DemonTweeks - 9/2/2019, 5:37 AM
any reshoots and they will need de-ageing technology for the actors!
Reeds2Much
Reeds2Much - 9/2/2019, 6:03 AM
Couldn't have been that difficult, it's not like Fox put too much effort to tie their own X-Men movies with the X-Men.
Hawknaba
Hawknaba - 9/2/2019, 7:11 AM
I mean the term mutants isn't specific to the xmen so they just keep the title tbh
newhire13
newhire13 - 9/2/2019, 7:17 AM
So dumb 🙄 I’m sure everyone will be able to tell it’s not part of the MCU X-Men movies that don’t even exist yet. Just release the damn thing on Demand or something.
marvel72
marvel72 - 9/2/2019, 7:41 AM
Sounds terrible but I want this to be good, just release it on Blu-Ray and let's forget about it being connected to anything.
Battabing
Battabing - 9/2/2019, 8:14 AM
They should have just let it be the last X-Men movie.
Marvel properties have not been good to the Stark sisters.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 9/2/2019, 8:54 AM
Well that’s a brilliant idea. There is quite possibly contractual obligations that this film has to be released in theaters and not just on streaming but I doubt any obligations that it has to be X-men related.

Take away all the references to X-men, mutants and superhero names and you can reuse all these characters and all these actors very soon without any large confusion or finger wagging. I wonder if they can change the name from New Mutants to something else?
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 9/2/2019, 9:15 AM
They're removing all references to mutants.....in a film called New Mutants?

Great.

I hope the next cut removes the whole movie.

TheManWithoutFear
TheManWithoutFear - 9/2/2019, 11:03 AM
It is a bit awkward that Disney have to release an X-Men film that is not in the MCU. I bet nobody really knows what to do with this thing.

Feralwookiee - 9/2/2019, 12:57 PM
