The winner is Mathew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class with 1,207 Votes (48.59%). I would agree with this. In fact I think it's probably the best CBM we have had in the last few years period. But not far behind with 901 Votes (36.27%) was Bryan Singer's second X-Men, also one of the best we have seen imo. Kind of surprisingly there wasn't too much between the first X-Men (174 Votes/7.00%) and the much maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine (125 Votes/5.03%). In last place was Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand.

I think that order is pretty spot on myself. Although both very flawed, I found Wolverine to be more compelling that X3.

I agree with the ranking and imo first class was in a separate league to the other four films. that said, the article mentions how surprisingly close X Men was to Last Stand and Wolverine, probably wouldn't have been the case had the poll asked members to rank the films in order of preference.

Im not really a big X men fan in general, especially of the movies but I gotta say I know good movie making when I see it and First class was phenomenal.

It was movie making at its best, I really gained a lotta respect for Matthew Vaughn after seeing it.

For this years CBMs for me
1.First Class- Just really well made.

2.CATFA- Also well made, alotta fun and I love Cap.

3.Thor- It was fun and Chris Hemsworth was great but the pacing was a little fast the characters motivations werent so clear and it was a bit choppy, good but just not as amazing as everyone on this site said it was imo.

4.Green Lantern- Although I love GL it just had too many problems, not as bad as everyone makes it out to be here, but compared to the other great CBMs of the year definetly not as good.

The opening scene to X2 is so amazing butttt First class is more accurate and more well done.

the problem with x-men first class is its a lousy prequel a good film but it doessn't follow the other movies continuity.

its not a reboot,its a prequel

-the opening scene of first class is almost the same as x-men.

-mystique looks like the mystique of the other films.

-rebecca romijn stamos & hugh jackman cameo's.

-the striker link easter egg.

-emma frost in first class & x-men origins wolverine.

-professor x in wheel chair at the end of first class but still walking at the start of x-men 3 & still friends with erik when they find jean.

-azazel scene in the c.i.a building reminds me alot of the nightcrawler white house scene.

-moria mactaggert looks younger in first class than she does in x-men 3 some 40 years later.

-mystique in first class has meant to of known charles since they were children but in the x-men trilogy there is zero mentioned of there pass relationship.

there is probably more but i think this will be enough.

@marvel72
The Stryker link actually doesn't hurt the continuity. The character appearing in First Class is the FATHER of the Colonel in X2, not the one in the same.
Not that I'm defending the continuity, because there practically is none, just sayin.

I voted X2. Wolverine should be dead last. It remains the only X-Men movie I haven't seen in theaters.

WolvieCBM - 8/30/2011, 10:31 AM
@marvel72: That was all already discussed. As of now, it's a reboot. They had to do all that in case the film is not a success, but just look at it as a reboot with some cool nods for the fans here and there. That's it.

I agree with Tainted.

A also voted X2. I enjoyed First Class but X2 just had more of what I love about the X-Men.

And Last Stand was certainly awful but Wolverine: Origins was downright abysmal and should bottom out the franchise.

How exactly was First Class a reboot...?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/30/2011, 11:01 AM
@ WolvieCBM

it's not a reboot though. it had too many things connecting it to the other movies. thats the problem. thats why it isn't a good movie. it doesn't fit with the overall picture.

if you had never seen the others? fine, it was good. but we've all seen the others, and we KNOW it was a prequel.

Now just because I didn't vote for it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I saw it at midnight when it came out, and again with my sister.

If sexual undertones make you uncomfortable, I'd advise you not to read comics.

I agree that it was rushed (it actually very much WAS), but the acting was perfect. And my sister and I ship Erik/Chahlie-Boy* so it worked for me.

Tainted87
Tainted87 - 8/30/2011, 12:08 PM
Here's the thing. X-Men set the groundwork for the entire series to be lesser than their comic book counterparts. It focused way too much on Wolverine, who basically pushed Cyclops aside. It blended the two Brotherhoods together while also pushing Sabretooth in just because he's Wolverine's archnemesis. I've seen henchmen in Bond movies with more development than Sabretooth.
I didn't hate it, but I'm not sure if I like it better than the third film.

X2 showed us it could do better. It packed so much into it, from Nightcrawler's intro (and small development after) to Rogue and Bobby's continuing sexual frustration, to Mystique grabbing the spotlight from Logan, to Magneto's memorable prison break (he rips the iron traces from the blood of an abusive guard to shape his tools of trade), to Jean's progressive development into "Phoenix", to an intense aerial battle showing off four mutants' powers in one scene, to the Deathstrike/Logan showdown, and of course, the emotionally charged finale. It had so much energy to it, enough action to bring in any non-X-fan, and superior acting from all sides. It worked with the changes from the first film and surpassed them.
