RUMOR: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Up For A Role In A Future X-Men Movie?

In yet another rumor the site that recently claimed the former wrestler was in the running to play Superman, there is now a new theory that he'll star as a mutant in the near future...

Not exactly the most reliable of sources I know, but Examiner have now revealed that there have been whispers accompanying the X-Men: First Class trailers release yesterday that Dwayne Johnson is up for a role in a future X-Men movie. They also mention that he's been a big fan of the franchise for a while now and that his friendship with Hugh Jackman might help with him landing a role.

As Hugh Jackman bulks up to his beefy best for the next sequel to Wolverine in the the hugely popular X-Men film franchise, there's talk amidst Thursday's release of the X-Men First Class trailer (see video on left) that a former WWE superstar-turned-movie star may become a mutant himself.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, a self-described "fan" of the X-Men series, has been rumored as a potential star in a future X-Men film for nearly three years. So far, the rumors haven't manifested in reality. But with Jackman and Johnson becoming good friends, perhaps Thursday's rumor mill will have actually gotten something right for a change.

While the ridiculous earlier rumors from the site claiming that both Dwayne Johnson and John Cena were up for the role of Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot a few months back, I really do hope that this one has some truth to it. While I can't think of a mutant in particular that he'd be well suited for, I think he's a great actor and would not be in the least bit bothered about him getting a role in this type of film in future! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

X-Men: First Class is set to be released on June 3, 2011!
