When you think Wolverine on film, think 'R'.

"I'm the best at what I do"- Wolverine. What exactly is he 'the best' at?
Killing. But so far we've got a Wolverine depicted in films who's a far cry from the REAL man. The next film needs to be 'R', and this is why:

Lets face it: Wolverine's a killer. In fact , if the situation warrants it, he prefers to kill. That's how he likes to solve his problems- or somebody else's. He's got adamantium claws which cut through just about anything in real time like a hot knife trough butter and a temper , if provoked to an extreme, can morph into a berserker rage where no one survives, maybe not even friends.
Here is a man, with a nearly indestructible skeleton and an accelerated healing factor which makes him a virtual killing machine.
This description is not of a man who diplomatically problem solves to a mutually favorable outcome over shaking hands. No , he's primal, instinctive and perceptive. He solves problems the old-fashion way: The stronger guy wins and gets his way. Which is why the Wolverine we've seen so far on film is a mere shadow of the real man. That Wolverine's civilized. Cultured. Under control. He's also very careful not to use his claws for anything but stabbing(off camera for the most part) and strategically cutting things to fall on enemies. That was understandable for the 90's TV cartoon, but should it be the same in the films? So far, It seems so.
If any read X-Force , you know what the REAL Wolverine does when confronting enemies. In just the last issue he decapitates Jonathon Standish in cold blood without hesitation or flinching!
THAT'S Wolverine! THAT'S the real man!
Those claws were designed by Weapon X program to kill, not threaten or negotiate.
Which is why the next Wolverine film needs to be rated 'R'.
I know what you'll say:"The studio can't sell as many tickets if it's not 'PG-13' ". You'll probably argue if Wolverine decapitates, eviscerates, maims, cripples, shreds or goes berserker on a mob of 'Hand' assassins, the film will be too graphic for younger viewers.
I don't care.
This is Wolverine. This is what he does, and he's the best at what he does. That's what we need to see in a Wolverine movie- Wolverine BEING Wolverine! Using his claws and fighting skills to their gory maximum, as it realistically would occur when sharp metal crosses soft flesh. I want-nay need- to see him go berserker, if just once.
Parents can take their kids to the next Pixar movie, or they can be that '17 or older' person who takes them to see a spectacle that they'll carry with them for years, making life-long fans.
Yeah ,I know it's a long shot- that a REAL Wolverine movie will ever be made, but I have hope it can be. The last 'Punisher' movie was pretty bloody, why not the next Wolverine?
In the right creative, serious hands it could possibly be the greatest CBM ever.

Nice! When I honestly first discovered wolverine (cartoons and movie) i didnt know he was so brutal. So when i was young i was one of the naive ones. But now i understand logan needs to kill. We need an R rated x-man!

I'm not going to lie. This was painful to read. I had to reread several sentences twice. You might want to proof read your article next time, or you could at least use microsoft word because that program can help with the grammar.

@golden123- The grammar's fine.
I'd much rather hear your thoughts about the subject at hand. Is 'PG-13' good for you, or 'R'? What rating can best represent the character in a film? I expressed my perspective, what's yours?

well put Yossarian. you can get away with ALOT in a PG-13 movie. The best way to satisfy a big Wlovie Blood fest would be to put him up against an alien force...then he can slash away.

@headlopper: I'm not really a Woverine fan. Don't get me wrong. I'm going to watch the Wolverine. It's just I don't really have much of a perspective on the translation of Wolverine from comic to screen, but I'd half to agree with Yossarian and naterator, if I were to pick a side.

@fangz- Yeah, you make convincing points and I agree overall. But if he cuts loose, practically speaking, I believe the violence should be commensurate with his powers, skills and claws. I felt having the flexibility of an 'R' rating gives Wolverine the freedom to set loose the animal and thus be represented faithfully as depicted in X-Force for example. Based upon your good points , maybe a Wolverine movie doesn't necessarily need the 'R'.
X-23 hunh? Sounds good!

@headlopper: If you know Wolverine from the comics and how violent he really is, why would anyone want to sit through a bloody Wolverine film? I won't. Just seeing him on the big screen is reward enough, let alone done right. And don't forget about the average movie goers. There are more and more young kids coming up with comics and their parents ain't goin to let them see a gory Marvel film. I understand where you're comin from, cause this is Wolverine after all and I believe more so in showing rather than just telling but there's just some stuff that can't be done on screen.

You want an example of a terrible bloody film, watch those cheesy Punisher movies.

@fangz- No, but i'll check it out now that you mention it.
Don't get me wrong people, I'm not a fan of gore, I'm a fan of Wolverine. I know what he does and how he is, and I just what him ACCURATELY portrayed in film- not some 'water downed' version- that's not true to the character.
For example, Batman doesn't kill, and that characteristic is portrayed in All Batman films.
Wolverine does, and quite violently, so my contention is ...SHOW IT!
