SAS: RED NOTICE Star Sam Heughan Responds To Fan Support For Him To Play The MCU's WOLVERINE - EXCLUSIVE

While SAS: Red Notice star Sam Heughan has previously joked about the fan support for him to play Wolverine, we pushed the actor for an answer about whether he'd consider it, and this is what he told us.

SAS: Red Notice is set to be released in the U.S. on March 16th, and arrives in the UK on March 12th where it will premiere on Sky Cinema.

Based on Andy McNab's book of the same name, the action-packed thriller follows Tom Buckingham (Sam Heughan), a suspended special forces operator who finds himself taking on heavily armed mercenaries on a train deep inside the Channel Tunnel when it's attacked by Grace Lewis (Ruby Rose) and her team as they declare economic war on the British government.

Heughan is fantastic in this Die Hard-esque adventure, and it's not hard to watch his performance as this psychopathic member of the SAS and think of a character like Wolverine. Last year, a poll from Just Jared revealed that the actor is a clear fan-favourite pick to take over from Hugh Jackman, and while he's joked about playing the hero on social media, just how serious is Heughan?

"Wow. Damn, I'd have to start growing some hair," he responded. "I'm not sure I have the full beard for that. I haven't actually ever really thought about it, but I'd certainly love to be in something as popular as that. A superhero would be really cool. So, yeah, it would be fun, but I think Tom Buckingham is kind of a superhuman in his right."

That's an interesting answer, and if we had a tin foil hat to hand, we'd definitely wonder whether he might have already discussed playing Wolverine with Marvel Studios (he steered the conversation back to SAS: Red Notice pretty quickly). That aside, it's not something Heughan is against, and it seems likely he'd take Kevin Feige's call if the phone were to ring.

We'll have more on SAS: Red Notice for you soon. Watch our full interview with Heughan above.

@BlackBeltJones - He got up one morning, looked in the mirror and said to himself “You should play Wolverine”. So I guess that’s technically two votes?

I've seen him linked to the role of James Bond a lot. Think the would be similar to other actors they've gone for in the past, where they are less well known, or have a big TV show.
Could see it more likely than the likes of Tom Hardy or Cavill who are very well known and have played big parts

I'll just keep leaving these lying around when the topic comes up. Special effects are permitted to achieve this as long as a good actor is cast.

@FleischerSupes - I think going with a Logan that's like 5'4 after seeing the 6'2 Hugh Jackman version on the screen for so long might be a bit too much of a drastic change for the general audience imo, I suggest a middle ground with a more average height like 5'9 like he was in the Ultimate Universe (he'll probably still look shorter on-screen seeing as alomst every hero except Spidey is 6ft+ in the MCU).

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Yeah it's really more about the stocky 'silhouette' his body proportions should have. A couple inches doesn't matter.

Fan Support? This is literally the first time I've ever heard his name mentioned for it.

I always thought of him as the replacement for Chris Evans (should we have the audacity to demand a return of Steve Rogers). He would make a great Captain America/Steve Rogers.

Wolverine? Nope. Not at all.

@PerrinNation1 - It's called Captain America not Captain Scotland.

@minato808 - Plenty of British actors do very good American accents. But that not withstanding I am talking about his physical appearance. The guy looks like Steve Rogers. Even more so than Chris Evans.

@TheUnknownX - 2nd, 3rd and 4th that! The dude is a good age, fit, good actor, has the charisma and...wait for it CANADIAN! I dont think that totally matters... being canadian. I just think its a wolverine bonus. PLUS, not to be snowflake or karen... cause I really done care, but everyone was getting mad that Scarlett Johannson was playing a trans, Getting mad that straight guys were playing gay and that white actors were doing black character voices... why not get the Canadian to play the Canadian! lol
