David Slade Front Runner To Direct Wolverine 2, Robert Schwentke Also In Contention

Apparently its come down to 2. Either Twilight: Eclipse Director david Slade, or Red's Robert Schwentke will helm the X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel..

According to Vulture, Wolverine's time in Japan will be over seen by one of two men.

Insiders tell Vulture that it's come down to two directors vying to call the shots on Fox's sequel to Wolverine. "Twilight: Eclipse" director David Slade, and Robert Schwentke ("Flightplan," "The Time Traveler's Wife"). Both men have been approved by the studio's brass, and though Jackman will ultimately be the one to make the call after meeting with each next week, a well-placed source inside the production insists, "It's going to be Slade."

Before anyone freaks out too much at the prospect of a Twilight Director taking on Wolverine, remember that Slade also directed the great 30 Days Of Night and the excellent Hard Candy, so I'm hoping he gets the gig. Schwentke will next bring us another CBM, Red, and has also directed Flight Plan and The Time Travelers Wife. We had previously been led to believe that Tony Scott of Matt Reeves might be in the running. Christopher McQuarrie will pen the script which will see Logan head to Japan to battle samurai(we hope!).

Schwentke FTW i guess. I felt Eclipse wasn't as well shot as New Moon IMO. But McTeigue would have been IDEAL!!!

I agree with Cap. Schwentke is a very competent director even though I'm not necessarily a fan of his movies so far(Red looks great though) and Slade is great. Could have been MUCH worse.

I'd be happy with either one. Look at it this way: It could be Brett "Screwed the Pooch" Ratner or Gavin "Random Character Inclusion" Hood. It can't be any worse than the first film...right? RIGHT?

i dont care how bad the last one sucked... im glad they're giving it another shot with Hugh. i like him as wolverine and im happy to see they're giving another crack at it and not throwing out the entire model like Sony did with spider-man.

I mean, there have been a few bad 007 movies. a few bad Superman and Batman movies and we still all love those properties... so bring on Wolverine! Hugh is a great actor!

That Chris Claremont/ Frank Miller Wolverine limited series, which is the one they are referring to when they say "the Japan story" is SO fricking awesome.

I love those books. They came out right at the time when I first got into comics so they are some of the first I ever bought.

THAT was the Wolverine that I loved but the fact is that that Wolverine is long long gone.
That Wolverine was replaced by dozens of different writer's interpretations of him, none of which appeal to me anywhere near as much.

@ leee777

this is what fox needs to do is actually pick up wolverine comics & actually read them.

the probably with that story not enough mutants or villains.

wolverine vs silver samurai & shit loads of ninjas is perfect to you & me.

but it won't be to fox,so this could be an epic fail in the making.

I loved "The Time Travelers Wife" and hated "30 Days of Night". I don't know what "Red" is about, and I haven't seen "Flight Plan". I refuse to see the "Twilight" stuff ((I watched the first to prove a point, though)) and I've never seen "Hard Candy" but intend on it.

@JJMeylar "Hard Candy" is, i believe, his best movie. it was suspenseful, brutal, and you just feel awkward watching it. its a masterpiece. so i give my vote to Slade, just as long as he doesn't make it too much like the 1st one (which wasn't a bad film IMO, just a very bad adaptation of Wolvies actually origins)

and everybody seems to be focusing that slade just directed Twilight in his life, and thats dumb to assume his work is shit, cuz its not because "Hard Candy" did very well and it is well received. and i know Twilight sucks huge balls, but Ecplise, i heard (didn't want to watch it, not giving in to the twilight fad) was the better one of the shitty saga, so that's a good sign. take some good with the bad people.

Really? REALLY?! these are the only 2 directors FOX could get? Well, expect an 'X-Men Borigins: Wolverine 2.0'.

you know who'd be good? Sly Stallone, simply for the fact that he knows that bad ass government spec ops assassins actually hurt people and draw blood. :)

I'd have to pic slade, but really it aint worth it unless they do WOLVERINE move and not another LOGAN movie but that aint gonna happen cause they wanna milk Jackmans face.

While I've had my share of bashing Fox for what it's done with a lot of the Marvel properties, a lot of (most of) the blame is with the writers & directors. Granted, it's Fox's fault for hiring them & I have little to no faith in what they're doing (with the exception of Deadpool, if R-Rod gets aboard) I wouldn't mind more of the blame to go in the right direction. Fox Studios itself (& it's subsidiaries) put out a lot of great films, just not a lot of great CBMs. Point being, get a good writer & director & it could be good. But even a good director is mot always a good match. Besides, as for Wolverine, Jackman only has a few more years (max) before he starts looking way too old to play someone who really doesn't age.

Guess I'd have to go for the bloke who's directing Red because the only thing a Twilight director should direct is...well...more shit like Twilight, lol! :D In all seriousness though, I loved 30 Days Of Night so I'd be just as happy if he got the job. In fact, he'd be my top choice until I see whether Red is any good! But who really cares? It's Fox so it'll be another huge let down!

Are we forgetting the movies ARE NOT ABOUT the comic. It about making a movies wide base will like to draw money. The studio suits pick someone u don't like to direct, or write the new wolverine don't go see it. As long as the green comes in. The suits at the studios will keep developing movies for green. Don't go see the CBMs u hear about that don't sound good coming together. Then we may get a CBM that across the board that will be about the comic and not the ticket sales.
