After originally being cast as Gambit in a now-defunct 20th Century Fox solo movie, Channing Tatum got the chance to suit up as Remy LeBeau in Deadpool and Wolverine.
The Magic Mike star will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday (and possibly Secret Wars), but this might well mark his final time playing the card-flinging mutant.
Rumor has it that Marvel is planning to recast Gambit for the Mutant Saga, with a more "age-appropriate" (Remy will likely embark on a relationship with Inde Navarrette's Rogue at some point) actor, and we may know who the studio has in mind.
According to Cartier Films, who is building a solid track record with DC scoops (we'll have to wait and see how his Marvel ones pan out), Queer, The Outer Banks, and Lucky star Drew Starkey is "one of the names being floated around."
There's obviously nothing too solid here, but, for what it's worth, James Mack - who many view as little more than a grifter - is also claiming that Starkey is in the running to play LeBeau, and that the character will appear in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Jake Schreier's film is shaping up to be a pretty busy affair as it stands, so if the likes of Gambit, the MCU's new Wolverine, and Mystique do appear, we can't imagine they will have substantial roles.
Assuming this is on the level, what would you make of Drew Starkey taking over as Gambit in the MCU? Let us know in the comments section down below.
After years of wondering what Marvel Studios had in store for the Children of the Atom, the new X-Men movie is finally starting to take shape, with writers Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) currently working on a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.
More recently, the main cast of the long-awaited movie was announced at D23, with Sadie Sink set to reprise her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role as Jean Grey, alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathan Milbury/Mr. Sinister.
We'd later learn that Gen V and Scream 7 star Asa Germann will play Angel, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star Ben Wang is in talks to play Iceman. Beast is also expected to round out the original team of five from the comics, and a recent rumor claimed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Peter Claffey has landed the role of the MCU's Hank McCoy.
