X-MEN '97 Voice Cast Reportedly Revealed And There Are Both Some Big Returns And Surprising Changes

There's a huge amount of excitement for X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up X-Men '97, no great surprise when any sort of continuation was once little more than a pipe dream for fans of the original show.

With Marvel Studios seemingly cooling off on what once looked set to be an entire slate of animated projects, it's unclear when we'll actually get to watch the series, though we did recently get a big update on that front. Now, it's been followed by an apparent voice cast reveal.

This comes our way from a listing on the official U.S. Copyright Office website unearthed by Toonado.com

It's no secret that not every original cast member will return, and a few key changes to the ensemble are clearly being made for any number of reasons.

If accurate, Ray Chase replaces Norm Spencer as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale takes over from Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Lenore Zann returns as Rogue, George Buza is back as Beast, Alyson Court will be replaced by Holly Chou as Jubilee, Alison Sealy-Smith reprises the role of Storm, Cal Dodd comes back to his most famous role as Wolverine, AJ LoCascio is the new Gambit, and David Hemblen is being swapped out for Matthew Waterson as Magneto.

In terms of other noteworthy new additions, Christopher Britton has been tapped to lend his voice to Mister Sinister, while Gui Agustini will play Roberto da Costa, a.k.a. Sunspot.

X-Men '97 Head Writer Beau DeMayo, who has been single-handedly keeping fans updated with the show's progress, recently took to Twitter to debunk the validity of that recent synopsis.

However, he didn't comment on the rumoured premiere date or this voice cast, so we're assuming they're legitimate.

Cal Dodd IS Wolverine as far as I'm concerned, so there was no chance of him being replaced. Glad Storm and Rogue are back too. And Beast.

Shame that Gambit isn't the same, don't know what the story is there.

@TheManWithoutFear - So I actually went to middle school and high school with AJ. We weren’t “best buds” but we were close in middle school, then drifted a bit in high school.

But we loved the X-men cartoon as a kid. I know that for a fact. And the guy LOVES pop culture characters and he was always a talented actor. He recently did the voice of Han in the Lego Star Wars game.

Here’s his Facebook page if you want to get an idea of some of his work: https://www.facebook.com/aj.locascio?mibextid=LQQJ4d

I’m not super close with him after all these years, but I have faith in him he will knock this out of the park.

Way too many swap outs.

When they replaced Gambit before it was weird. Cyclops can't be helped but Jean Grey, Gambit and Jubilee can be. They even got the real Jubilee buried in the cast somewhere.

Glad to see the returning cast, and hopefully the new voice actors can fill in well with their roles.

Side note - I’m so happy Sunspot is included, but it really seems odd that he doesn’t have his 90’s comic costume like all the others. It’s a pretty minor thing, but it just seems odd when all characters wear their iconic 90’s costumes besides him.

"David Hemblen is being swapped out for Matthew Waterson as Magneto."

I wouldn't phrase recasting a role played by a now deceased actor as being "swapped out" but maybe that's just me.

The voice actor for Storm was so terrible imo. Hopefully the dialog for that character will be better this time.

I just want to know if they are going to bring back the original voice actor for Apocalypse? His voice and dialog was great.
