After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land.

Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles

This looks like a good wild action flick.
Not every movie has to be Oscar caliber.

300 was on of those movies that was loved by the general audience and fan and dumbstruck critics as to why people liked it.

I can't really get into this movie however. The epicness just doesn't feel like its there.

I don't get it. This movie looks really awful. It literally looks like a crappy, direct-to-bargin-bin DVD movie.

It was critically acclaimed by a handful of critics. Overall the critics didn't care much for it, barely making fresh at 60%. More top critics found it to be rotten, as opposed to fresh. Megacritics scored it a 51. I guess that means we can say that Bad Grandpa was a critically acclaimed film. It was barely fresh at 61% and more top critics found it to be fresh than rotten. It scored a 54 on megacritics. Transformers scored higher with top critics and megacritics. It's really stretching it to refer to 300 as being critically acclaimed. That terminology gets thrown around a little too loosely. An exception of a few critics may like a film, so one uses that as a basis to say a film is critically acclaimed. It's ridiculous.

This will be a Netflix watch for me.

If you need a critic to tell you what you should like then you're a brainless idiot. I like what I like and will most definitely see this to find out if it's in my taste.

I'm going to watch it because 300 was one of those films that made us guys pound our chests, roar to the heavens, and punt our friends off of the couch while yelling "THIS IS SPARTA!!!". So, I'll give this film a chance. I don't think that it will be anywhere CLOSE to 300, but there's no harm in hoping. Low expectations will probably help me enjoy the film more anyway.
