While Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff likely won't be crossing paths again, Deadline is reporting that both Chris Evans (Captain America; Avengers: Endgame) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow; Avengers: Endgame) are in advanced negotiations to reteam for Ghosted, a high-profile romantic action-adventure film from Apple and Skydance.
2x BAFTA Film Award-nominee Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman; Eddie the Eagle) is set to direct with a screenplay from Deadpool and Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The duo also recently scripted the upcoming Chris Hemsworth Netflix vehicle Escape from Spiderhead.
Plot details are currently under wraps, but the project is being described internally as a high-concept romantic action-adventure movie in the same vein as the Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner classic Romancing the Stone.
This will be the tenth time Evans and Johansson have starred together, after The Perfect Score, The Nanny Diaries, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame; but it will be the first time since The Nanny Diaries that they've been paired romantically.
Earlier this year, the actors were reportedly in talks to star in Greg Berlanti's Little Shop of Horrors remake, with Johansson playing the leading role of Audrey and Evans playing her abusive and sadistic boyfriend Orin Scrivello. It's unclear which project will move forward first, but it seems like Ghosted may have a slight advantage.
Johansson - who recently had her second child - is expected to star in Wes Anderson's next film, which is currently shooting in Spain. She hasn't returned to work yet, but should join that production sometime next month. Evans, meanwhile, has wrapped Netflix's hotly-awaited The Gray Man, which reunited him with the Russo Brothers and will see him square off against Ryan Gosling (La La Land; First Man).
