Director Gary Ross Has NOT Withdrawn From HUNGER GAMES Sequel

Good, he should stay on and finish the franchise he started.

Hunger Games was amazing, and deserves all the success its having.

@thewonderer i agree 21 jumpstreet was better. to everyone else i'm not saying hunger games was bad, it was definitely good but not a masterpiece like many are claiming.

I don't think anyone is claiming it was a masterpiece. Fans of the book, or those who have simply read the book, will attest to that.

What it does offer, which sets it apart from many many many blockbusters and adaptations...
is that it features a female lead who is not objectified by her sexuality. She IS objectified later on in the series, but only because she is a symbol of resistance. This is a movie where there is a definite role reversal - rather than the guy defending the girl, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is determined to survive AND keep her pretend boyfriend alive. It is a social commentary, not an action piece. Kids will likely be bored if they haven't read the book or go into it thinking it is supposed to feature stylized violence like the CBMs we love.

It is a welcome break from the ordinary, and that is why it is so successful.

By the way, Gale is such a minor character in the books and the movie - featuring him here is like headlining the Avengers with Maria Hill.

The movie was not bad, but it wasn't especially great either. I like the PREMISE of kids killing each other, the execution was just terrible though. The scenes and themes were very contradictory and well there were a ton of cliches and whatnot.

When does Summer start again? Oh yeah May 4th.

i was a little confused at why these games were taking place to begin with. the text in the beginning went to fast and did a poor job of explaining it. but you get the jist of what and why throughout the movie. just would of been nice to know from the get go.

Yeah, Peeta was awful, although Josh Hutcherson nailed the scene (he had Stanley Tucci to help him though) where he is being interviewed by Caesar. It's hard to imagine how this kid is going to play Peeta as he evolves in Mockingjay.

I agree, it should have been narrated. When books are adapted w/o keeping the first person perspective, it can be quite difficult. Some shows and movies that have sacrificed the first person narrative HAVE actually profited by this, as by that one person's perspective, the story could get to be a bit boring IN COMPARISON. Because this was sacrificed, however, I had to whisper to my friends and sister both times WHY Gale's name is in the Reaping 42 times. They SORT OF hint why in a different scene later, when Katniss tells Prim not to put her name in more times - it's not worth more food, but by then Gale's scene is practically forgotten.

I know it sounds odd, but I really hope Chris Evans or an actor similar to him is cast in the next movie to play one of the victors - Finnick.
