ELEMENTARY: New Details Revealed At Today's Television Critics Association Press Tour

Talking at the Television Critics Association press tour earlier today, Elementary executive producer Rob Doherty has discussed plans to introduce Moriarty in the series, while Jonny Lee Millar (Sherlock Holmes) and Lucy Lui (Doctor Watson) address romance and race issues.

Deadline reports that Elementary executive producer Rob Doherty confirmed plans at today's Television Critics Association press tour to introduce both Professor Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes' father in the CBS drama series which debuts this Fall. Calling the latter, "an interesting shadowy figure," Doherty went on to say this about Moriarty (without going into details as to when he will be introduced in the show). "We want to keep all our secrets. I feel it’s important at the end of the day to be true to the spirit of the character," going on to describe the original version as, "a spider at the center of the web of crime in London."

As for whether or not we'll see romance between the Holmes and Watson, Jonny Lee Miller said, "Man, woman -- the friendship is core, the partnership. They become colleagues and partners, and there's also the other reason they have to be together that we have, the sober companionship. People are going to wonder, but wondering and asking questions is something you want your audience to do."

Surprisingly, talk soon turned to Lucy Lui's race rather than gender (she will obviously be playing a female Doctor Watson to Miller's Sherlock Holmes in Elementary) with the Asian American actress - and star of 2000's Charlie's Angels - joking that, "I don’t think I’m going to be doing any karate moves on him any time soon!" She added, "The wonderful thing is it’s not going to be highlighted or billboarded, it’s part of who I am and who the character is." Said Doherty: "As we got into casting process, there was no part on the show that was race restricted. It’s irrelevant, incidental. Culture and race is just not going to play into it."

They asked if they could remake Sherlock, and the creators of Sherlock turned them down, then all of a sudden there is a Pilot for this.
It is a big thing..

Why not just show Sherlock? Every American I have ever talked to that has seen it loves it, even my brother and he hates any non American TV..
Sometimes our countries entertainment industry embarrasses me.

Sherlock is a better show. And from the previews from Elementary, it looks terrible, but I'll give it a try.

If the British show sucked or never was made we wouldn't mind it to much and might give it a chance, but I agree I rather look at horse shit.

Is anybody actually gonna watch this? I mean, what's the point? We already have a Sherlock TV series and film series running. Is there anybody who feels the need for more?

I for one am holding any judgement until i actually SEE THE SHOW. I think this take could be rather entertaining, and Johnny Lee Miller is great

@Superman it's mainly MTV that steals all of the British shows. Alphas and elementary are the only ones I can think of that are not from MTV.

Eh, I'll give it a go. I want to see how the character of Watson translates as a woman. If it's shit, I won't watch it anymore. Simple as that.

Also, if it turns out that they've only turned Watson into a female so that Sherlock and Watson can pursue a romantic relationship together, I'm out.
