FAST X Finds Its Replacement Director In THE INCREDIBLE HULK Vet Louis Leterrier

After Justin Lin shockingly stepped down, Universal has been actively seeking a replacement director for Fast X, and it seems like The Incredible Hulk's Louis Leterrier has emerged as the frontrunner.

Following longtime franchise mainstay Justin Lin's decision to step down as director of Fast X, Universal has been actively seeking a replacement over the past few days, and it seems as though they are now in advanced negotiations with Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk; Now You See Me) to take helm of the upcoming action blockbuster.

Some scheduling details still need to be worked out, but it seems like both sides are confident a deal will come together in the next few hours, if not days. Production is already underway, with second-unit photography continuing after Lin's exit, but Leterrier will have his work cut out for him when he takes over first-unit, since the former has already completed an extensive pre-production process.

In addition to The Incredible Hulk, Leterrier has helmed The TransporterTransporter 2Now You See Me, and Clash of the Titans. Jason Statham is expected to be back in this film, so his history with the director may have played a part in bringing him onboard this project so quickly.

Vin Diesel returns to headline the project as Dom Toretto, with a familiar supporting cast consisting of Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej Parker, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, Sung Kang as Han Seoul-Oh, Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey, John Cena as Jakob Toretto, Lucas Black as Sean Boswell, Cardi B as Leysa, Charlize Theron as Cipher, Helen Mirren as Queenie Magdalene Ellmanson-Shaw, and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw.

Academy Award-winner Brie Larson (Captain Marvel; The Marvels), Jason Momoa (Aquaman; Dune), and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide SquadThe Payback) have all joined the cast in key roles, with Momoa reportedly set to play the villain.

Plot details are currently unknown, but the film is expected to be the thrilling first half of a sure-to-be epic two-part finale.

Fast X is slated to race into theaters on May 19, 2023; while the final chapter in the saga, the untitled Fast & Furious 11, is tentatively scheduled to arrive in February 2024.

So they got a severe downgrade for a massive blockbuster, most likely because he'll be a Yes-Man.

This is going to be interesting lmao

Why did Lin leave? The standard "creative differences"? It would be hard to believe that since they got all the way through pre production to filming. Had to be an actual reason.

@ElricReturns - reports are that Vin Diesel showed up fat and unprepared.

@ElricReturns @BeefyTrout - Fat, unprepared, late, and apparently even shadow-directing.

You got the director of one of the least liked MCU movies to handle the ending of a 10+ movie saga?
ElricReturns

@MCUKnight11 - to be fair, the entire MCU was finding itself back then. Iron Man was really the only solid phase 1 film. Even it's sequels were testing waters and didn't work. Idk idk about least liked either, there are people who love it and like it but not many straight up haters. It just doesn't fit neatly. But the MCU didn't start nailing things till The Winter Soldier and had mostly great films till Infinity War. Endgame ushered in this new era of MCU movies that are doing too much and again aren't really what they are aside from MARVEL events.

@grif - I actually knew he directed Transporter 1 and 2 but totally forgot until this article, and the others I had no idea. I didn't think he worked much after on bigger films.

Why doesnt Desil just do it

He seems to be a control freak on the franchise anyway

There have been reports than Lin left because of him

Not like this is a franchise that requires a Quention Tarantino

5 speeches about family, car races , action with logic on par with power rangers and explosions, thats all you need

He's used to working with egotistical leading men who take control of the movie for themselves, so that works.

I actually like his Hulk movie. And he directed every episode of the Dark Crystal series, which was great.

And if you've never seen this movie, watch it. It's the movie that got him Hulk in the first place, and it's amazing. (it's called Danny the Dog internationally)

Louis will crush this. Hulk is probably the MCU's most underrated movie.

It has a whole cult of people online supporting it.

@BO31 - People are trashing this choice in these comments, but I agree with you. I think its a great match. He's made bad movies, but most of them are better than the rest of the F&F movies. He can handle the egos and big action set pieces...Not sure what people are upset about. Not like the "fast" movies require Steven Spielberg to direct them...They are awful awful films.

@Shivermetimbers - all facts. Couldn't do any worse than the rest FF is trash anyway.
