FAST X's Budget Is FAST & FURIOUS' Franchise's Biggest Yet, Nearing Even AVENGERS: ENDGAME

The upcoming Fast and Furious 10, a.k.a. Fast X, appears to have a budget that's completely spiralled out of control as it's nearing Avengers: Endgame levels! Find more details on that after the jump...

2022 has seen the Jurassic World trilogy reach its end, leaving Universal Pictures with one less profitable franchise to fall back on. The Fast & Furious series is also close to concluding, and The Wrap (via ActioNewz.com) has shared some details on the upcoming tenth instalment, Fast X, that could spell trouble for the studio.

According to insiders, the budget of that upcoming movie has now ballooned to a massive $340 million. That's 70% more than last year's F9: The Fast Saga, and by far the most expensive instalment of the franchise to date. It's also a figure that puts Fast X in the same territory as Avengers: Endgame, though we don't see this movie grossing close to $2 billion even if it's a hit

The trade notes that the cost of assembling the A-List cast is a big part of that massive budget, not to mention increased production costs created by the pandemic.

However, we can't imagine director Justin Lin's decision to leave the movie after clashing with star and producer Vin Diesel has helped matters. Now, The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier is at the helm of the penultimate chapter in the racing series.

With a budget this large, Universal is unlikely to turn as large a profit as normal, a problem for a studio that has little in the way of big franchises to draw moviegoers into theaters. However, they're hoping Jason Blum and James Wan's new partnership will give them a slate of horror projects, while Illumination (the animation studio behind Minions and Super Mario) remains key.

Fast X has attracted some big names, including Oscar-winner and Captain Marvel star Brie Larson. Other additions to the movie include Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Daniela Melchoir (The Suicide Squad), and Alan Ritchson.

Returning stars include Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, and Scott Eastwood.

In terms of plot details, very little has been revealed about Fast X. However, all you probably need to know is that there will be a lot of cars, a lot of crazy stunts, and probably quite a few explosions too. Will it get crazier than heading into outer space? That obviously remains to be seen for now!

Fast & Furious 10, a.k.a. Fast X, is set to race into theaters on May 19, 2023.

@marvel72 - ...because this franchise is making a sh!t ton of money, of course.

@CurlyBill - They are identical. Fast series is just as bad as that.

@CurlyBill - they should say they’re in the same universe

I was actually enjoying the series until the last one.

I just hope they don't over do it for the finale. I'll still be watching, but gosh is Vin's shtick getting old.

@UnderBelly - it'll be revealed brie Larson is dom's long lost sister. Then the last film will reveal dom was adopted and he'll meet his long lost biological father.

@Origame - and probably discover that the Rock was his long lost cousin.

@Origame - Alan Ritchson is going to be Paul Walkers twin brother that they NEVER mentioned before but he’s also a rogue FBI agent that drives fast cars and is a master mod mechanic.

@UnderBelly - Every movie on this series started "over doing it" after a certain point.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah, I agree, but this was to mostly quite entertaining results. 9 just went dumb with the whole space, drone jet and swinging cars.

7's building jumps were insane but wad handled so much better.

I also quite liked 8's sea of drone cars lol

But why tho, the last movie didn’t do the older movies numbers, actually wasn’t even close to a billion.

I don’t get movie studios 👀 you’d think they’d want to make money, but lately they’ve just been listening to these big “stars” instead of giving people with actual ideas some of that budget to make cool movies and stuff.

I used to but the last two haven’t been that fun, ever since Paul Walker left it hasn’t been the same.

@ScaryTerry - they’re just popcorn movies. Something to turn on and enjoy a bucket of popcorn. There’s never really any plot substance, although the Rock made them more interesting.

What’s funny to watch is how unrealistic they are. They start as these underground criminals obsessing over cars, and have turned into superhero-esque indestructible characters… even the actors call themselves superheroes 🙄. So goofy

LMFAO… Josh always draws comparisons to Disney/Marvel regardless of what post (no these aren’t articles), he makes.

Brie Larson is not the box office draw that he claims (just look at her Captain Marvel sequel needing more characters added, as a studio attempt to draw in the attention of people who didn’t care the first time), and the fact that she had won an Oscar means nothing to the general public. No one cares that Hollyweird are obsessing over themselves and patting themselves on the back. The fact that this movie has a budget near Avengers: Endgame really doesn’t mean anything either. Endgame was overrated and personally disappointing in a few ways. Hey @joshwilding you remember that Vin Diesel is a part of the franchise that you’re fanatical about right?

I can still remember when everyone used to compare everything to Avatar. The F&F movies are the definition of “dumb action movies”. Nothing less, and certainly never anything more.

@ImBatman4realz - endgame the second highest grossing movie of all time and captain marvel made a billion, easily. Almost every mcu movie except a few has added other people. It has nothing to do with having a lack of box office draw. The MCU is the box office draw.

Have some context and real facts before you start spewing mindless bs. Jesus, man
Origame
Origame - 11/19/2022, 10:05 PM
@MyCoolYoung - let's face it. Only reason captain marvel broke box office records was because they hyped it up as being important to endgame.

@MyCoolYoung - "The MCU is the box office draw"
Very well put. People conveniently forget that the MCU BRAND is what sells at this point. It could be Howard the effing duck, and the movie will pull in record numbers
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/20/2022, 5:12 AM
@Origame - I don’t think that would carry over for repeat viewings nor legs
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/20/2022, 5:13 AM
@Vigor - people definitely forget that. A lot of the leading men haven’t been as successful in the box office without the mcu and that’s not even a knock on them but that marvel brand holds weight
