FAST & FURIOUS 9 Adds Michelle Rodriguez To The Cast After Female Screenwriter Compromise

Following Rodriguez's long campaign to add a female to the franchise's screenwriting team, her efforts have proved successful. As a result, Rodriguez will be returning for the series' 9th installment.

Behind-the-scenes drama is nothing new for the Fast & Furious gang, especially after the reported beef between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson leading up to The Fate of the Furious. In fact, there have been reports that Dwayne Johnson won't even return for the ninth film. Another person who had negotiation disputes is Michelle Rodriguez, who is now confirmed to return to the franchise after a female screenwriter compromise.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Rodriguez confirmed Letty's return, in addition to justifying why the franchise demands a female voice for the ninth installment:

I felt like there was not enough of a female voice in the franchise. You should evolve with the times, not just pander to certain demographics that are stuck

The series had never had a female screenwriter before this, making the inclusion a huge win for Rodriguez and those supporting her. Though a female screenwriter has been agreed on, the name of the talent has not been disclosed yet.

This franchise is out of steam. Make F&F9 and end it, focus on Hobbs and Shaw from now on

@MasterMix - just so we are clear, I would go see an action flick called Cars and Butts.

@Manmarvel - I don't think that would be an action flick more like a flick, flick or an action parody

Lost interest in this series a while ago. Seriously this use to be street racing, now you might as well call it xXx. Plus bullet proof villains in the spin off.
I guess its nice that they got a female screen writer to help on the script, not sure how that will make the movie any better or worst, I guess they might give the female characters more to do, so if it does make the film better, then I guess great.
Arrow this season was one of its better seasons and it had a mainly female writing staff, so yeah if it turns out good, then great.
Just seems like an odd way to decide whether to come back or not, I heard she wanted more money, wonder if she also got a pay increase

HELL YEAH.

We need as many female voices as we can get, like, personally, lately, ive been checking out the names of the writers and directors of the stuff I watch to see if enough female crew is being hired and so far ive been somewhat positively pleased (with the exception of some stuff that I hate-watch), so yeah, after eight movies and one spin off? Finally. [frick]ing FINALLY.

I was pretty sure that the writing room was all women.

Doesn't really matter if she can write I guess. Still think it's a stupid thing to make a compromise over though.

Off-topic: just finished watching that Replicas movie with Keanu Reeves. Jesus [frick]ing Christ, that was awful! Makes The Lazarus Effect look like Ex Machina.

I love the F&F franchise. But with there going to be 10 movies not including the spinoffs its starting to remind me of Tropic Thunder and the Scorcher movies, LOL.

Speaking of badass women in movies. How about that Halle Berry performance in John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum? That was awesome!

If I'm a female screenwriter, I really wouldn't want to write for Vin Diesel's lines lol
