Though it has been confirmed that James Franco, who starred in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, would not be returning for the upcoming sequel, Entertainment Weekly reported his character would be making a posthumous appearance. Apparently, that's news to Franco, who had no knowledge of a cameo. “Wait, I have a cameo? I didn’t know that,” he told EW. “You know, I don’t even think they asked my permission to do that.” It's probably a miscommunication from the studio, so let's hope nothing serious comes out of this. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theatres July 11.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Release: July 11, 2014
Director: Matt Reeves
Screenwriter: Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Scott Z. Burns, Mark Bomback
Starring: Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Keri Russell, Judy Greer
Plot: A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

This reminds me of when they used Marty's dad in Back to the Future Part II by using the actor from the first movie in archive footage and making a new actor look like him... so he sued. lol

I didn't know either. YES. That is all I wanted, at least some sort of acknowledgement that his character existed. Prob gonna be Caesar remembering him through photos or flashbacks from the first film. Great news

I loved Franco in the first movie. I was disappointed he wouldn't be in the sequel, I would've loved for him to have a minor role but Caesar is definitely the star.

I'm not a big Franco fan but I liked him in Rise, a cameo would be cool.
