Jennifer Connelly To Re-Team With Darren Aronofsky & Russell Crowe For NOAH

The actress, who previously worked with Aronofsky on 2000's Requiem For A Dream and with Crowe on 2001's A Beautiful Mind, is in negotiations for the female lead in the upcoming Biblical epic Noah. More details after the jump.

Just yesterday, we heard that Darren Aronofsky's Noah (based on the director's graphic novel, which adapts the classic Bible story of Noah's Ark) was slated for a March 2014 release by Paramount Pictures/New Regency. Now, The Tracking Board has learned that Jennifer Connelly - who previously worked with Aronofsky on his 2000 film Requiem For A Dream - is in talks for the female lead in the Biblical epic. If negotiations go well, Connelly will play Noah's wife, Naameh. Noah will be played by Russell Crowe; Connelly has also worked with Crowe before in the 2001 drama A Beautiful Mind. In addition, the studio is interested in casting Saoirse Ronan (who stars in the upcoming sci-fi film The Host) in a supporting role.

With production beginning in July, Noah is set to hit theaters March 28th, 2014. Below is a plot summary of the graphic novel:

It was a world without hope, a world with no rain and no crops, dominated by warlords and their barbarian hordes. In this cruel world, Noah was a good man. Seasoned fighter, mage and healer but he only wanted peace for him and his family. Yet every night, Noah was beset by visions of an endless flood, symbolizing the destruction of all life. Gradually, he began to understand the message sent him by the Creator. He had decided to punish the men and kill them until the last. But he gave Noah a last chance to preserve life on Earth...

as a Christian, I've got mixed feelings about this. I'm a big fan of Crowe and Connelly (she's my favorite actress) and seeing them re-team for what has the chance to be an epic movie (even more epic if Liam Neeson is the antagonist) is exciting. but...Hollywood is (obviously) not always the best representation of Christianity and Biblical accuracy. as long as they don't add a bunch of...just really anything unnecessary, I'll be pleased. as long as it is faithful (no pun intended) to what the Bible says happened, I'll definitely see this.

Good actresses. This cast is shaping up nicely.
Crowe, Neeson, Connelly and Ronan.

Connelly is reteaming with Crowe too by the way. Both were in Beautiful Mind.

@RunDTC: As excited as I am for this movie, I can't help but agree. Hollywood usually fails when it comes to adapting Biblical stories accurately. But yeah, as long as it's mostly faithful to the Biblical account, it should be a fantastic film.

As for being faithful to the story, I'm sure it will be. I mean it will be an adaptation like anything else, but if Aronofsky is as passionate about it as he says I doubt he'll change it up too much.

before anyone starts complaining about religion, remember that most people on this site/comic book fans are religious extremists themselves. their regions are dc and marvel, the heroes shown in your religious texts are prayed too just the same.

people go f*cking mad when their fave character or comic is changed or the costume is different.

its arguing over something that the majority dont care about or even know about. it makes me laugh

im not a comic reader myself but its more interesting to me than what is in the comics themselves.

im a comic book agnostic, im not pro dc or pro marvel, i just know there somewhere sometime there is something great released on both sides

The question is whether the graphic novel is faithful to the biblical story, being the film is based on the graphic novel. Not too keen on seeing Connelly and Crowe as a couple again.

Probably the best thing Akiva Goldsman has written. Its funny cause the same guy was the screenwriter in Batman & Robin and Batman Forever. ;)

The description of the screenplay is borderline sacrilegious.

90% of the stuff IS NOT in the Book of Genesis.

But it's just a movie after all; maybe it will be good entertainment.

Connelly once had one of the best natural figures in the business. See the Rocketeer and Don Johnson classic "The Hot Spot" for proof. Sadly, lIke many other curvy natural beauties she went the ultra thin route.

As a person who studies scriptures and doesn't have much faith can't wait to see Aronofsky's adaptation of this story and how it places the story in a different context. I picture this movie to have a similar style to the Fountain than any of his other acclaimed movies which makes me happy because that is probably my favorite movie by him. America is going to eat this movie up if it doesn't deviate from its main point of the biblical story. If Aronofsky makes it brutal and cool the neo-cons will eat this up and show how relevant the story is to their younger ones (besides the hardcore believers who will call blashpemy) and the hipsters will eat up Aronofsky's artistic style
