Jurassic Park has a Major Sequel Problem. Will We Ever Get a Great Follow Up?

In 1993, Steven Spielberg blew us away with one of the greatest pieces of modern cinema, Jurassic Park. Sequels were always going to happen but why haven't they been good?

We're huge fans of the original Jurassic Park and at one time or another have tolerated and even(to some extent) enjoyed aspects of its sequels. That said, at no point do any of Jurassic Park's follow ups come even close to being as magical and as awe inspiring as the original was. The Lost World shifted leads, had a new cast and moved past the adventure in favor of more action and bigger stakes. Jurassic Park 3 did plenty to harken back to the 1993 film that started it all only to feel rushed and empty. Jurassic World came close to delivering the seemingly lost adventure aspects of the previous sequels but ended up being a CGI heavy, lack luster mess. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 61% Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, doesn't appear to be fairing much better.

In this video we discuss why we feel the original Jurassic Park has set an unobtainable benchmark for any and all of its sequels. Soft reboots aren't even going to be enough to recreate the feeling the first Jurassic Park did.

What are you thoughts on the current state of the Jurassic Park/World franchise? Also, has there ever been a great sequel? Are we missing something? If so check out the video and drop a comment in our comments section.

Peace!
