Mizu is officially back and looking to continue her one-woman quest for vengeance, only this time, her deadly vendetta is taking her far from the shores of Japan.
As part of their Anime NYC panel, Netflix dropped a brand-new trailer for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2, confirming the Emmy-winning animated hit returns in January 2027.
When we last saw Mizu, the gender-hiding, blue-eyed sword master, was carving a bloody trail through Edo-period Japan.
In a society that branded mixed-race people as literal demons, Mizu hid her eyes behind tinted glasses and set out to hunt four white men illegally hiding in the country; one of whom is her biological father. Now, her single-minded quest for vengeance is packing its bags and making a beeline for London town.
This teaser is the first bit of footage from season 2, following the "start of production" trailer released all the way back in August 2025.
Thankfully, Netflix has already announced that a third and final season is in production and that the wait between seasons won't be as long, as season 3 will be released in 2028.
Season 1 of Blue Eye Samurai was released back in November 3, 2023, and that year, it cemented its place as a top-tier anime series by taking home the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program at 2004's ceremony, triumphing over formidable contenders like The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, X-Men '97, and Scavengers Reign.
In a press statement, series creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green commented, "When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations."
"We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue."
In the coming season, Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi (Brenda Song) and Taigen (Darren Barnet) navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo (Masi Oka) searches for a new purpose.
