ANT-MAN 3 And THE MANDALORIAN Actress Katy O'Brian Joins The Cast Of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8

Katy O'Brian has accepted her mission to join the cast of the eighth (and final?) instalment in Paramount Pictures and Skydance's Mission: Impossible franchise.

Details on O'Brian's role are still under wraps, but there's already speculation that she might be playing the main villain. Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt has faced off against women in the past, but this would be the first time he's encountered a female primary antagonist.

Of course, the character could just as easily end up being an ally of Hunt and his team.

O'Brian had small but memorable supporting roles in Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Disney+'s The Mandalorian, before garnering a lot of attention for her more recent co-lead turn in violent thriller Love Lies Bleeding alongside Kristen Stewart.

Plot details for Mission 8 also remain a mystery, but the movie is still expected to serve as a direct follow-up to Dead Reckoning, despite recently dropping the "Part 2" sub-title.

In addition to Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff are all expected to return. Other new recruits include Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer and Hannah Waddingham.

Despite rumors to the contraray, Rebecca Ferguson is not expected to reprise her role as Isla Faust after being killed off in the previous film.

Christopher McQuarrie will return to the director's chair, and also penned the script. He is producing alongside Cruise, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Chris Brock serving as exec producers.

This was originally envisioned as the final film in the franchise, but McQuarrie has since indicated that he might have a few more missions left in him.

Mission: Impossible 8 was previously set to debut on June 28th of this year, but following a strikes-related delay, will now hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

What do you make of this casting news? Are you looking forward to the new Mission: Impossible movie? Drop us a comment down below.

"Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission -- not even the lives of those he cares about most."

@MotherGooseUPus - The bike jump and the car chase scene where the best action in DR, but it did feel like a slight step down from Fallout. Hoping they have something really cool saved for this last one.

@mountainman - nah the train crash was the best part by far.

@mountainman - i mean i LOVED this movie but overall it felt slightly less than Fallout cuz Fallout was the "ending" to a story started in Rogue Nation. I think thats why we feel this way. Still an amazing movie imo but yea, just not as good as Fallout; but thats nearly impossible to beat... i'll see myself out now lol

@MotherGooseUPus - I’d also add that Faklout wouldn’t have been so good without Rogue Nation setting it up. So maybe the idea of a 2 parter benefitting the second part may bode well for this final entry.

@MotherGooseUPus - for a second I got confused because I thought you meant John Wick. Obviously it's Jurassic World. I agree
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/27/2024, 6:19 PM
@bkmeijer1 - you know i meant Mr Wick. JW was great, but MI is by far the best action series out there and its still going strong.

MI
JW
Apes

those are the action standards, imo

@MotherGooseUPus - yeah, I was just messing around. John Wick is indeed pretty solid action, but M:I is king as it is far more diverse in it's action imo.

Gotta hand it to John Wick thiugh, despite it's monotonous action, it did spawn a lot of similar fun mid-budget action movies.

Anyway , it’s been cool to see her in bit parts here & there such as Black Lightning & AOS and then have her profile rise…

She could be an action star in the future!!.

Anyway , I could see her as an IMF agent or maybe Esai Morales’s Gabriel’s new henchwoman since he betrayed Pom’s Paris.

She’s been very annoying in Ant Man 3 and Mandelorian (not Andor). She will likely have a minor role here so her wooden acting shouldn’t impact much.

@mountainman - How was she annoying in Mando?
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 2:53 PM
@dagenspear - Wooden acting, was super obvious that she was a bad guy but somehow we were to believe the doctor fell for it, in the second biggest time wasting episode of the whole show after the lame Lizzo one.
Whoelsebutkevin
Whoelsebutkevin - 3/27/2024, 3:20 PM
@mountainman - Finally someone agrees, I hated her presence and to me made the show less with her bland acting.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 3:26 PM
@Whoelsebutkevin - As generic goon working under the villain she was passable. But giving us an entire episode where at first we are supposed to like her even though it’s obvious she is still evil, and then later accept that her terrible ruse actually fooled the doctor was insulting as an audience member.

She was great in Love Lies Bleeding, can't wait to see her in more shows and movies moving forward.

Also, jesus, that cast! Katy O'Brian, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, Holt McCallany, Hannah Waddingham . . . throw in Nick Stahl*, Bruce Greenwood, and Gary Cole, and you've got all my faves right there.

*c. 1998, before all the . . . unpleasantness.

@Clintthahamster - she’s been good in other stuff I have seen her in too

If she wasn’t already in SW , she could have been a better replacement for Gina Carano as Cara Dune.

Cool. She's a good actress and I think she's hot. Well, when they aren't dressing her like a boy on purpose. She looks good in that movie with Kristen Stewart I see advertised all over YouTube right now. I think she can create some chemistry with the right people.

I am confused — didnt they announce both 7 and 8 were filming back to back? How are they casting a new part now lol
thedrudo
thedrudo - 3/27/2024, 3:51 PM
@ReverseFlasher - They never finished shooting part two. I believe they even had to finish writing big chunks of it too.

So it’s either that or they cast her and never announced it. That stuff happens quite often.

Man I saw Dead Reckoning a couple of weeks ago and HOLY SHIT, loved it!

And yes, 8 is for sure a direct follow up. They got the key, now they gotta find the sub to put the key in this new one. Which I am assuming, will be what happens in 8.

Loved it though!

Did she get the role based on her most recent film? That would be cool!
