MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING Star Cary Elwes Teases "Exciting" Role In Upcoming Two-Parter (Exclusive)

Cameras have been rolling on Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning for a while now, with that primarily being down to delays caused by the pandemic and the fact filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie is helming not one, but two instalments of the hit action franchise simultaneously.

Part One arrives in theaters this July, and among the many new additions to the franchise's cast is Cary Elwes. As with everyone else who has signed up to appear in the two-parter, we have no idea who the actor is playing, though McQuarrie did share a first look at the character not too long ago (seemingly confirming he'll appear in Part One and Part Two).

Earlier this week, we spoke with Elwes about his standout role in Guy Ritchie's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. While we had him on the phone, we asked the actor if there are any similarities between his character there - a handler who is tasked with taking charge of an unruly group of spies - and the one we'll meet in Mission: Impossible

"No, that’s completely different. Very different," he confirms. "Honestly, I’m not allowed to talk about it [Laughs]. Different but equally as fun. It’s very exciting."

"Christopher McQuarrie is very similar to Guy. He’s a very magnanimous director. Very joyful. He always likes to improvise things and encourages actors to explore different avenues. It was a very joyful process and I’ve really had great luck in working with directors who are very confident and secure in their own abilities. It makes it very easy for me."

We can't fault Elwes for not giving anything away about his Dead Reckoning role, but he clearly had a blast working with McQuarrie on the highly anticipated movies.

As for Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre - a movie we'd definitely recommend - that arrives in theaters on March 3, 2023.

So excited for Dead Reckoning. Hopefully Ethan Hunt gets a better send of than Craig’s Bond did.

OT : I enjoyed the Snyder movies, don’t care how anyone else feels about them, but I’m of FB and Independent Culture (not sure why they’re on my feed) comes up with an article about James Gunn. Someone commented with a hashtag saying Send James Gunn To The Electric Chair. Even though I enjoy those movies and would have liked seeing his vision completed, I’m glad it’s never going to happen now. Those people don’t deserve another thing. I hate that I have to keep what I like to myself out of feeling embarrassed for the fan base that’s attached to it.

@DudeGuy - As you can see from this site, there are all types of fans of this genre, some more toxic than others. Just like what you like, fellow geek, and don’t worry about the interweb’s vile hordes. They care more about a platform for their hate than any genre they may be wrapping it up in.

I'm waiting for Mission Impossible 9: Young Guns.

The last 3 MI movies have been so great. I hope they figure out how to continue it. Maybe have Tom Cruise become the secretary.

@DocSpock - I kinda wanted Jeremy Renner's character to have that role. But given the circumstances, Hunt might be better

@bkmeijer1 -

Yeah, I wanted Renner back too. He will probably never do a hard action role again. He's a very good actor though, so he can get back to dramatic roles when he is healthy hopefully.

@DocSpock - hope he recovers first. But after that, I do wanna see him in some dramatic roles as well
