Tom Cruise Says They Have Thought About Taking MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE To Outer Space

Mission: Impossible - Fallout is a masterpiece of cinematography, with some people even calling it the greatest modern day action film and one of the greatest films ever made. The movie, with brilliant and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action sequences that are second to none, has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

With Fallout setting a new high bar for the Mission: Impossible franchise and action films in general, fans have begun to wonder how Tom can out-Cruise himself with seemingly impossible stunts in the inevitable 7th film. The answer may lie in one region the MI films have yet to venture:
outer space

In an interview with Collider, Cruise was asked whether the Mission: Impossible films will ever go into space. Cruise, being the daredevil that he is, answered that it is actually something they have considered for the films, but they are just not there yet when it comes to figuring out how to both incorporate dropping him from space into the story or how to logistically pull it off.

We’ve thought about it. It’s like how do we do it? It’s the mechanics of getting it there. How do you build a sequence there and how long can we have that sequence? Because if I went up and just dropped, it’s the kind of time — how do you put that into the structure of a screenplay of a Mission? When we’re doing these things, there’s so much story going on. As opposed to just a cool shot, we want character and story going throughout. I can’t help but look at that building up here or at the Eiffel Tower and seeing stories. What could the team do and what could we do? But we have thought about that.

Knowing Cruise, it's only a matter of time before Ethan Hunt must venture into space for an impossible mission to save the world. Especially in this day and age where space is becoming more militarized and threats from enemy satellites are a clear and present danger, Hunt heading to space as a one-man Space Force would not seem as farfetched

Be sure to check out Cruise's interview with Collider in the video before, where he also talks about an awesome story of going undercover in the London metro.  Share your thoughts below on Mission: Impossible - Fallout and whether you would like to see Ethan Hunt head into space!

Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout. The greatest action film trilogy of all time.

And space is the next logical place to take Ethan, I was actually thinking about him heading to space after I walked out of the theater last weekend. Great to see Cruise has been thinking the same as well!

@HeavyMetal4Life - I'd say quadrilogy including MI3. That one introduces the revamped MI style with JJ directing, introduces us to Benji, AND Michelle Monaghan's character...without it you'd be like is this bish!? Plus, it's pretty good.

Also, check out what Tom posted. A bunch of people screened the film on the site where he and Cavill duked it out in the final act. Pretty awesome!!

It'd have to live up to Moonraker if they did decide to go to space. That would be hard, considering it's one of the best Bond films.

@L0RDbuckethead - Jaws was a good villain, I liked him. One of these days I'll have to watch all the Bond films in order, though for now I'm content with Mission Impossible (especially since its already being declared as better than the entire Bond franchise).

@HeavyMetal4Life - To each their own, but the Bond franchise is miles ahead of M:I franchise, to me.

Not to say that the M:I franchise is bad at all, Bond just has about 60 years on M:I. Plus, I've read a lot of the novels, so I'm kinda biased.

If you do get a chance to watch all (or some) of the old Bond's, definitely be sure to check out:

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Thunderball

Those are some of my favorites for various reasons. Also I'm a fan of all the Brosnan ones, if you haven't seen those (yes, even Die Another Day).

@L0RDbuckethead - yeah I've seen all the Brosnan ones, I did enjoy some of those.

@TyrantBossMedia - For sure man, but that's what makes Moonraker so good! I guess when I say it's one of the best, I mean it's one of the best, in my opinion. There's 25 (26?) Bond films now and it's so hard to nail one down as the definitive best, as they're all so different. Funny because it's kinda similar to the MCU in that regard, but the Bond franchise has been spread throughout 60+ years and the MCU is 20 movies in only 10 years, so there's way more to compare and contrast.

But yeah, you definitely know your Bond. Totally agree about FYEO, it's a top tier one I left out. Not so much on Octopussy though, as I see it consistently ranked as one of the lower-tier Bond films. IMO it's good, just not one of my favorites.

But yeah, the newer Bond films definitely have embraced that (like you said) Jason Bourne-type action thriller that is so prevalent in today's cinema. I do like Craig as Bond though, however I feel he definitely could've given a bit more in Spectre. To add to the Craig films, I'm a staunch defender of Quantum of Solace and feels it gets unnecessary hate.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Love the Bond franchise. Watched them a ton when I was a kid. There are quite a few bad films but also some really good ones. I love both the bad and the good in a weird way. I'm never not entertaining.

The Bond Essentials in my opinion would be:

1. Mr. No
2. From Russia With Love
3. Goldfinger
4. Thunderball
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
6. The Spy Who Loved Me
7. For Your Eyes Only
8. The Living Daylights
9. Goldeneye
10. Casino Royale
11. Skyfall

@Solarkalel85 - Besides one scene (which is really stupid), I actually like Man With the Golden Gun quite a bit too.
