Mission: Impossible - Fallout has helped the franchise reach new heights at the domestic box office. The sequel, which is part of a 22 year old franchise, has set a new record in the context of the series. Finally surpassing Mission: Impossible 2 as the franchise's highest domestic earner, the series clearly shows no signs of stopping.

This past weekend saw the event unfold. Mission: Impossible 2, standing at a very respectabe $215 million in the American market, was surpassed by Fallout Sunday to become the highest domestic grosser in the franchise. Compared to Rogue Nation, which ended its run at $195 million, the latest sequel has already buried that total by $20 million. Fallout is expected to end its run at $225-230 million when all is said and done.

The film is already the top franchise earner worldwide.
