Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law returns as his formidable colleague, Dr. Watson, in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room...until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large—Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)—and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder—a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty.

Harris also talks about the film in the first image.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is set to hit theatres on December 16!

I'll reserve judgement until I see the film,
but I am skeptical about this casting choice.

wasn't Harris the future Will Robinson in the Lost In space movie? If he was I don't like him either.

Remember when it was rumoured that Brad Pitt or Daniel Day Lewis would be taking on the role?

Gary Oldman would have been perfect Moriarty but im sure Jared will do miracles in the role and surprise us all!
After all he is the son of the great Sir. Richard Harris!;)

Who are these whores below the comment box?
Anyhow, the first one was good.
Maybe the director wanted someone unassuming to play the bad guy. That would make it all that harder a mystery to solve for Holmes, if the bad guy doesn't seem 'bad', right?

I think they are taking inspiration from George Zucco´s portrayal of Moriarty which Zucco played 1939 in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Watson.

first movie was so terrible i don't understand why RDJ would want anything to do with a sequel ... at least 1 million completely unnecessary slow motion shots and quick edits ... seriously made me nauseous

Could be a good choice. The real danger of Moriarty is that he is 'hidden in plain site'. That he is the proverbial puppeteer, controlling and maipulating events from a distance.

And they are going for the slightly 'younger' look (late 30s, early 40s as opposed to the late 40s to late 50s)

@pacman
The bloke who stole the component to that gas machine at the end, and who put a gun on Holmes when he looked in the carriage that Irene Adler was in.

Oldman would have been fantastic, but Harris could very well pull it off. After all, he comes from classical roots! :)
