New Mortal Kombat Movie In The Works; Kevin Tancharoen To Direct!

Kevin Tancharoen already expressed his big interest in Mortal Kombat universe, first by making that short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and then by directing a web-series with popular characters. Well, it seems all that work paid off, because Warner Bros. and New Line are moving forward with the reboot and they hired Tancharoen to direct.

From The Hollywood Reporter:



"Mortal Kombat is heading back to the big-screen.

New Line is hiring the filmmakers of the popular Mortal Kombat digital series, made earlier this year by corporate sibling Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, to take on a new adaptation of the classic 1990s fighting game. There is no actor attached and the new story will not serve as an extension of the game of digital series."

The only good ep from that web "show" was the Raiden feature, everything else was slow, uninspiring, lazy.

A full length feature of that? ... No thanks

Well the whole point of the web series was to see if there was any interest. Anyways hopefully they don't ground the movie and embrace more of the mystic side, the guy certainly wasn't afraid to do it on the shorts having a short budget didn't really help

Very cool I liked things like the Raiden episode, The Scorpion ones and the Cyborg ninja ones but some of them I did not feel to happy about it may have only been because of casting. The last Mortal Kombat movies were a bit too corny hopefully the director can make a fun movie but still remember the characters rip each other's heads off.

...i liked the whole web series. people always expect the same old crap all the time and nothing different. the series shows all the characters that were on there that they can be different than what was in the games and the old movies...

I wanna see blood, lots and lots of action, ripping of heads, spines, hearts, monsters fighting, and I want Scorpion to look EPIC!! And most importantly, I want a good, strong story for this movie!

And the web series were great! Can't wait for Season 2.

after some spotty and questionable webisodes, he finally got what he wanted. I mean I loved the initial movie pitch trailer way back when and thought it was enough to give him the green light. But WB wanted to make sure. Congrats to him. Hope he does it well.

Interesting. Obviously, the web series has the crowd split. I only saw the first episode and it wasn't horrible, but I don't think I'd want to see that made into a movie. I love the Rebirth short-film, but again, I don't know how well it would translate to a full-feature.

I think there is a great film somewhere between the web series and the previous films/video games. It's just finding the right story and look. Not sure if this director can do that or not.
