Sherlock Holmes Is Getting A Modern Makeover...Again

While there is already a TV show featuring a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, it seems that CBS is developing another modern take on the popular character, created by Arthur Conan Doyle. More after the jump...

Not sure what to make of this...It's kind of unnecessary. But, according to Deadline, CBS is preparing another television series based on Arthur Conan Doyle-created character Sherlock Holmes, set in the present. More below:

"CBS has bought Sherlock Holmes, a drama project from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Timberman/Beverly Prods., which is described as a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Rob Doherty is writing and will executive produce with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly."

I have to say, BBC's Sherlock is REALLY good, and I can't wait for next season. And this project at CBS seems like the exact same thing. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens with this one. Plus, as many of you know, Guy Ritchie's upcoming sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be released on December 16. So, what are your thoughts on this new project at CBS?

He shouldn't smoke. That's not politically correct. It sets a bad example for youngsters. We can't have role models-even fictional ones - smoking. He shouldn't smoke that, that ...pipe! I think I'm gonna puke!
But if someone's graphically murdered, and he's on the case... that's okay.

Ellery Queen would be great if done as well as the 1975 series starring Jim Hutton and David Wayne.

I liked the BBC miniseries all 3 episodes, really like to see the second season stretch out to at least 6 or more.

OH a the CBS thing, I wouldn't mind if the network didn't have a crime drama on like every night of the week and would probably ruin it with unnecessary romantic entanglements and other extraneous story lines. Thus making a season stretch to the necessary 22-24 American season.

Yeah, I think it is time for some original ideas, or at least something that hasn't been overdone (regardless of how good or bad they have been) as Holmes. I would like to see Malibu Comics' STRANGERS adapted to live action, honestly, to see if they could be more than copycats of the DC/Marvel universes.

Wasn't there supposed to be a series of two brother buying a appartment and finding out it was the office of sherlock holmes or something, and people still keep sending letters to holmes. So they answer them.

Why? Is this because loads of British actors are invading USA and the americans wanna have an american playing a british character...oh wait...THATS ALREADY HAPPENED!!!

Anything the yanks makes that is firmly british is always rubbish or at least not as good as our series (yes I am a Brit)!!!

ie Life on Mars USA is a prime example!!!

Words can barely describe the excellence of the BBC Sherlock series. That show is a blueprint for how to do a modern-day take on a classic literary character right. First-rate acting, excellent and intelligent scripts, great cinematography.

For those who ask, the series has appeared on both PBS and BBC America that I've seen.

CBS' series has no chance to measure up to the BBC show unless they basically steal the whole formula and find some of the handful of good screen writers that are still alive in this country.

CBS needs to slow down...nothing they put out will come close to BBC's Sherlock. They would have to try to copy what BBC is already doing and who wants that?

@commicbook guy, well said and i agree 100%. The british do tv right. They aren't concerned with making and milking a show to get 7+seasons out of it. the bbc put together 3 pitch perfect Sherlock episodes and that was all that was needed. For this they have to look at a 22 episode arc and then leave us hanging over the summer to to play the game all over again. More Cumberland please

House is great and all, and I absolutely loved the BBC Sherlock. Very well done, but we already have several American "Sherlock Holmes" shows. The theme of Sherlock Holmes is an amazing detective who sees things other people don't so he is able to solve the crimes that nobody else can. Oh yeah, and he's not a cop but helps the cops out. All of this plus self destructive tendencies, and you have Sherlock Holmes. Some American shows that follow this pattern are Psych and the Mentalist (which are blatantly the same show). If CBS's SHerlock is as good as the BBC Sherlock, but with 24 episode seasons, I am down.
