The full theatrical trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows that hit a few days ago (see it below) has fans very excited and now they can look forward to a threequel at some point too.

Deadline reports..

Warner Bros has set Drew Pearce to write Sherlock Holmes 3, continuing the Guy Ritchie-directed series that stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The deal will soon be sealed with Pearce, who is currently writing Iron Man 3, which will also star Downey.


Game Of Shadows is set to be released December 16th and WB must be pretty confident in it's success if they are already planning a follow up. But then the first movie made a packet, received good reviews and garnered a big fan base. Personally I wasn't really a fan but I'll give the sequel a shot anyway. Obviously there isn't any news on plot or returning cast (we can assume Downey Jr and Law will be back anyway) for the third flick yet but we will keep you informed with any updates that come out way.

Y'know, I can picture Holmes being the next Bond-style franchise. Y'know, with a new actor every now and then playing him. But that would be a way for WB to keep making these after RDJ gets tired of playing him.

@CaptainTail - Thats what I was thinking! I cant wait for the second one, Ive got the first on Blu Ray and love it. Im sure the sequel will be just as good, and the 3rd will hopefully top its predecessors.

And marvel72 why be such a downer man... Its Sherlock "Freaking" Holmes! The first great detective!!!

Considering I look forward to anything carrying Robert Downey Jr.'s name alone, I'm all for this next film, and a next film, and another, and another, and another 'til this charming mother-effer stops caring enough to make any more.

Same goes for the Iron Man films. RDJ is chock-full of charisma, and he just makes everything he does that much more enjoyable to watch.

@CaptainTall Yes. Yes, Guy Ritchie SHOULD direct the next batch of Batman films. I honestly can't envision any other director of today's calibre carrying on that torch.
