In recent years, Marvel Studios definitely hasn't struggled to bring A-List talent into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson sadly isn't among them. Seeing as he's just wrapped work on Black Adam, that's hardly a surprise, but he has at least spoken to Kevin Feige.

During a recent interview with Collider, Seven Bucks Productions President and Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia confirmed that Johnson and the Marvel Studios President "have a great relationship and we've flirted around a few ideas before, but nothing serious."

He added: "There’s a mutual admiration for what we each have been doing and what Kevin has built over there is truly incredible."

Needless to say, Garcia didn't elaborate on what those ideas were, but did explain why they never panned out. "Ultimately though for us, we’ve always been very committed to what we wanted to build with Black Adam," he admitted. "Black Adam was the character we wanted to bring to life and who we felt DJ was destined to play. Once we set our sites on this character over a decade ago it was hard to imagine DJ [playing] anyone else."

Johnson always speaks passionately about Black Adam, so his commitment to that project does make sense. Yes, the MCU would probably be a safer bet, but the actor stands a very real chance of putting this character on the map next year (leading to sequels, spinoffs and, hopefully, an eventual clash with Superman and Shazam).

The door isn't completely closed when it comes to a possible MCU appearance, of course, but we'll have to make do with seeing Johnson in the DCEU for the foreseeable future.
