Cowboy Bebop Script To Be Re Written

Cowboy Bebop Script To Be Re Written

While talking to MTV, Keanu Reeves said that the current script for the live action version of Cowboy Bebop was too awesome and faithful, so had to be re written!

"There's a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars," Reeves(who is set to play main character Spike Spiegel in the movie) told MTV News during a press event for "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," his recent film with Robin Wright Penn.

Last we heard from writer Peter Craig, he had assured fans of the anime that his version was "extremely faithful". Sounds like he wasn't exaggerating. Of course that could all change now if the studio id demanding changes...

"So the studio went, 'This movie is fantastic and it would cost half a billion dollars," laughed Reeves, "so he's doing a rewrite."

I have to admit, I have still not seen this anime despite being told by countless people how awesome it is..I'll get to it! Anyway, I don't have much of a clue about characters and what not but..

"Everyone is in there," said Reeves.

"The only challenge was to make a satisfying western narrative out of the kind of storytelling that happens," he added. "There's a great draft, so we're just trying to pull it back a little bit now."

make it and they will come. or WE will come lol. If they did use that budget i could see them making it back from Bebop fans and Reeves fans alone.

so...why exactly would it cost a billion? i know he's exaggerating, but if they can make a movie that was as visually pleasing as the new star trek movie, why can't they do this??

this sounds like the script was total shit to me. thats why its being re-written. its either that, or the studio is sticking their hands in, because it was too faithful, so they want to make it more appealing to everyone...therefor making it suck

look how much star trek cost really take a look. and how much did it rake in. yup millions and millons. how many loyal fans ( trekies) are out there. millions maybe billions? now think about how many bebop fans. millions ehhhhhh thats a streatch. the studios will [frick] it up like have done with so many great anamie. dragon ball evolution should have been something great. it was just ok maybe good at best it was a boring day when i saw it. beware of a studio who wants to rewrite a sript with a loyal following. when the movie comes out you will have some snot nose kid who cant even spell cowboy or bepop let alone know alittle bit about his story line. booo to this rewrite. kevin smith get to work make something good for us please

Cowboy Bebop is one of the anime's that got me into the genre, between it and Evangelion, I got hooked.

Luffycapri, We get it, you [frick]ing love anime like a person never should. You remind me of a friend I had in high school who constantly babbled endlessly on the genre. This kid would relate everything to an anime/manga of some sort and I swear he liked hentai more than actual sex and you are totally giving me that vibe. Stop it with the lame ass Youtube links. It has nothing to do with CBM's in any fashion and you continue to post them despite multiple, repeated requests to stop posting them. So I ask you one last time. Stop posting that irrelevant shite!

Keven, I agree with your entire statement.

Listen I am a HUGE CB fan its my all-time favorite anime. But if its too faithful.. it wouldnt be made right. The series in general is almost like a sitcom there r only a handful of episodes that actually pertain to the story. If this is to b made correctly.. they need to get into the "meat and potatoes" of the series. The writers should watch the first minute of the first episode and start with that and watch the last two episodes of the series.. thats what the series is about!!

I agree with Myth Kevin in that the DB movie sucked because of the storyline. I actually dont like DBZ its boring the story sucks and it drags. There is no solid beginning middle or end. Very few animes can be adapted to films and the only ones that can have to have a solid middle or end. I have been saying for years that CB would make a great live action film and there is no problem with reeves playing spike. Id prefer a younger actor because of reeves age but thats my only problem with it. I am a huge Yu Yu Hakusho fan, i grew up watching that show.. but a live action of it would SUCK because there is no constant and solid plot. Same thing with Naruto and Bleach and all those other big and well known life suckers of anime series would make terrible films.

FMA could make a decent live action because of its solid plot. Evangelion could maybe (gundam could never). Darker than Black would make a great film and maybe a live action about the Rurouni Kenshin OAV's not the series.

CB would b by far the best choice. If u took the episodes pertaining to the series storyline and made a live action line for line itd b great. Let Reeves play the part, let the script b revised Im sure it isnt the storyline thats making it cost so much its probably the action scenes which we need few of. DIALOGUE is the key to writing a good script. Any Tarantino film is cheap and has great dialogue. In TDK think about what u remember most about the movie. Its not the action scenes, its the jokers dialogue. There is some great dialogue in CB i.e the cat the lived as million lives along with jets speech about man only thinking of the past before they die. Thats what made cowboy beebop great and thats what makes films great DIALOGUE.
