Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths Director Wants To Make A Sandman Movie Next

IESB have an interview with Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu, the animation directors of the past three DC Universe films. In it Liu mentions that he would like to make Sandman(Morpheus) his next project.(And there's something about Aquaman in there too!)

The interview is mainly about their work on the latest DCU Animated Movie, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths and it's a good one. But I just picked out this part that I thought was very interesting.

Asked what other DCU projects they would want to do next...

LAUREN MONTGOMERY:
I want that Aquaman project, but I doubt we'll every make it.

SAM LIU:
I'd love to do Sandman from the Vertigo line. I don't know what kind of story that would be, but I'd love to work with Neil Gaiman because I really loved those comics.

I'm sure Liu is just wish listing. How awesome would an animated Sandman movie be? Many people feel this could be the only way to do the comic justice. Personally I think with today's technology in a live action movie would work--if done properly. I would be more concerned with a director/screenwriter losing some of the magic of Gaiman's stories in translation. But an animated movie would be a great place to start. So let's hope this is more than wishful thinking from these talented folks.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths will be released February 23, 2010 as a Special Edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray

Must see Aquaman on film. I hate how everyone Hates on him. He's a Justice Leaguer for @#$% sakes!
I have to agree, Sandman would be EPIC ( live or animated).

@magicfingers...So is Shining Knight;)..ah no I don't hate Aquaman, I actually think he can be pretty cool depending on who's writing him.

Sandman will be a daunting task to take on much like Watchmen. It will need a lot of narration.

I've been deciding whether or not to go through with my short film adaptation of the "The Sound of Her Wings" segment of Preludes and Nocturnes. I'm still not sure whether I should.

But an animated Sandman would be great, but they'd have to give 110% in its creation.

Do it man. I was thinking of doing the same a while back! That exact part too. What is is about that issue everyone remembers so fondly? I guess cos it was Deaths first appearance.

Sandman has to be made right. Otherwise they should stay away from this magnificent peace of fiction.
And aquaman could be a realy cool animated movie. Especialy when they portray him as in Justice League Clasified

@Ror--I think it's because the prior issues (while very well written) were throwing their weight around in an attempt to connect it to the DC Universe--when it came to "The Sound of Her Wings", it's like Neil took a breath and said "Now let's get on with the actual story." To me, it's the point that "Sandman" went from being great to being amazing. (I also believe that Gaiman himself once said that he considers that issue the turning point in the series, the first time he really felt like the story was "his")

And as far as my short film project goes...I'll probably give it a shot, but as an aspiring special makeup effects artist (as well as screenwriter) I'm really waiting to see if I can do the character justice with the makeup.

Aquaman is a great character. Would make a great movie. He is basically god-like in his powers and the whole Atlantis thing and torn-between-two-world thing could be done really well. He does more than just talk to fish!!

a hawkman or aquaman would make more sence; however, i think it would be awsome to see a Nightwing origins movie!!

I think, as far as concept goes, Terry Gilliam would also be able to handle a "Sandman" movie...
