With the season of Legend of Korra just ending recently with such an incredible ending, it was a no-brainer for creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko to appear at Comic Con's 2012 SDCC panels to discuss the new season of the show. Little did fans know that they would be in for more surprises: Nickeloden has ordered two additional seasons of the Legend of Korra in addition to the two already ordered. That makes the grand total 4 books over 52 episodes.
For those of you that don't know, The Legend of Korra is Nickelodeon's highest rated show, pulling in a 3.8 on average per episode and frequently out-scoring Mad Men in the ratings. Everyone wants to know what this animated sequel-series to Avatar: The Last Airbender has up it's sleeve. For a 12 episode first season, called “Book One: Air,” Korra dealt with many real world issues from socialism to terrorism to murder and suicide all within a Saturday morning cartoon show.
It is easily one of the best series on television despite it being a cartoon and doesn't get enough appreciation around here, in my opinion.
Following the slideshow, attendents were treated to some preliminary animatics showcasing what Team Avatar's been up to in the last six months. As described by the creators, Mako is now a Repuclic City policeman, Asami has taken over her father's Future Industries and Bolin is struggling to find himself (assembling what looks like a new pro-bending team). Check out a youtube users video of the animatics show during the panel of the new season below...
The Legend of Korra has just been picked up for 26 additional episodes, which brings the series tally to 52 episodes spread across four books total. It was also revealed that Book Two will be called Spirits and picks up six months after the end of Season 1.
Among the SDCC panelists were creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko; stars Janet Varney (Korra), P.J. Byrne (Bolin), David Faustino (Mako) and Seychelle Gabriel (Asami); as well as voice director Andrea Romano. We all know here from her many voice directing positions but specifically the DC universe fandom.
Korra's family will have a more prominent role this season, including her father, mother, uncle and cousins. I'm speculating here, but this will probably tie in to the Southern Water Tribe visit.
