Batman: The Animated Series is an American animated series based on the DC Comics character Batman. The series featured an ensemble cast of many voice-actors including Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Arleen Sorkin, and Loren Lester. The series won four Emmy Awards and was nominated for six others. Batman: The Animated Series, which is noted for its thematic complexity, darkness, and high artistic quality, has been praised by critics and fans alike as one of the most faithful adaptations of the character. IGN has called the series the best adaptation of Batman anywhere outside of comics, the best comic book cartoon of all time, and the second best animated series of all time.

It was produced by Warner Bros. Animation. The visual style of the series, dubbed "Dark Deco," is based on the artwork of producer and artist Bruce Timm.

The series originally aired on the Fox Network from September 5, 1992 to September 15, 1995. When the first season of the series aired on weekday afternoons, it lacked an on-screen title, but when its timeslot was moved to weekends during its second season, it was given the on-screen title The Adventures of Batman & Robin. The series was the first in the continuity of the shared DC Animated Universe, and spawned the theatrical film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993).

Paul Dini and Bruce Timm rings as true Batman canon to me, and i love when do comics, like the BTAS comics and the Gotham Sirens comic.

Alan Grant´s Batman comics in the 1990´s is my second favourite.

To quote an old Wizard magazine article:

"Dude's Batman - forget about it..."

I loved the animated sereis. Still wish these guys would write and do a movie. I saw a anime series called Full Metal Alchemist where the actual voice actors dressed as the characters to do a small movie for fun and it was great. It would be a kick to see these guys dress up as the characters they voice over. As long as an occasional animated dvd comes out I am happy... And more so when Conroy, Hamill, Timm and Dini are involved.

BTAS IS the best representation of the character, and Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie by far.

Twenty years and still going strong. The video posted above by Welldrawn says it all - Bale's voice is ridiculous and it's Nolan's fault.

@SpiderFan35^^ - What makes it even more sad, is how restrained and toned down the voice was in Begins. Bales performance in Begins was almost flawless - he just went over the top with it in TDK.

Conroy and Hamill are batman and joker..Conroy has been awesome, and NO one has capture the funny w/ evil the way mark hamill has for the Joker...as good as Conroy's Batman has been (awesomeness) Hamill's Joker is all that and much more...dont get me wrong, i loved heaths new take...but i grew up on this, and it will always be what they are 'suppose to sound like'
