Variety confirms that Paddington 3 is in active development at Studiocanal, news which is sure to be welcomed by fans of this wholesome, beloved series of live-action/animated films.

"We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care - as with film 1 and 2," a rep for the studio told the trade in a statement. This comes after star Hugh Bonneville recently told BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show that the film is "somewhere on the horizon" and that there's "forward momentum" on the project.

No plot details have been shared, but Studiocanal will again team up with David Heyman's Heyday Films.

Writer/director Paul King has already confirmed he won't step back behind the camera for Paddington 3, as he's going to be busy with Wonka, the Willy Wonka origin story set for a 2023 release.

Paddington grossed $280 million at the global box office, while the sequel earned $225 million. Both films were critically acclaimed, with 97% and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes respectively. Ben Whishaw voices the title bear, and will likely return for this sequel as he recently reprised the role in Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Paddington.

We hope to have much more to share with you on Paddington 3 soon.
