SDCC '13: 'BEWARE THE BATMAN' Angling To Introduce The Outsiders?

Last Sunday, "Beware the Batman" held a SDCC panel where the new cg animation show's producers screened an upcoming episode, discussed the show's villains and revealed the latest superhero guest star.

Admittedly, I have a bit of a soft spot for the latest superhero guest star reveal on Cartoon Network's "Beware the Batman." Rex Mason aka Metamorpho is a character that I feel is vastly underutilized and has such an interesting powerset. He'll be voiced by Adam Baldwin in an upcoming episode. Also joining the voice cast is the lovely Emmanuelle Chriqui who will voice Sapphire Stagg, girlfriend of Mason. In the pilot episode of Beware the Batman, we were introduced to Simon Stagg, the CEO of Stagg Industries and an instrumental figure in the creation of Metamorpho.

Also, last Saturday's episode featured a cameo from Barbara Gordon (voiced by Batman: The Animated Series' Tara Strong) who showrunners confirmed will feature more prominently in upcoming storylines. The showrunners also teased that the second half of the season will introduce a well-known villain and left the audience with the clue that his name includes the letter "d" (Harvey Dent?).

With the introduction of Metamorpho confirmed and Katana already featuring prominently as a supporting character, we already have three out of the six members who formed the team in "The Brave and the Bold #200" back in 1983. All we need are Halo, Geo-Force and Black Lightning and we'll have the original squad.

Running Time: 30 minutes
Season One Premiere: July 13, 2013
MPAA Rating: Tv-PG
Starring: Anthony Ruivivar, Sumalee Montano, JB Blanc, Greg Ellis, Kurtwood Smith, Udo Kier, Lance Reddick, Tisha Terrasini Banker, Cree Summer

You know, I gave this show a chance but there's just something wrong with it. I think they failed with this series. The main villains in it were weak and I'm not really digging the animation style. The only show I can sit through during DC Nation is Teen Titans GO! just becuase my kids love it. I think they made a huge mistake cancelling Young Justice and Green Lantern. Am I crazy and this show is actually good or do others agree with me?

^After two episode, you came to the conclusion that they failed. What??!

No it was after one episode. I just couldn't see myself sitting through another one and enjoying it.

I think the show is pretty dope. I want young justice back like everyone else but that shit isnt coming back. Might was well buckle down and roll with it. I think you people could actually like it if you werent trying to hate it. Its not like teen titans, avengers assemble, or Ultimate Spiderman, the show actually has depth to it.

@ Dedpoolwithcomicsans - I agree with Ultimate Spider-Man but I did see the Deadpool episode and it was humorous. But other than that I don't watch the series.

@ YoDawg - I didn't come into the show hating it. I tried to like it (as I do with most series) but Pyg and Toad are weak villains and I just can't seem to get into the series.

For me, it' not about the villains (athough I will say that going with Pyg and Toad for your series premiere wasn't the best choice).

Its more about the Gawd-awful representation of Bruce and Alfred that make me wanna whip my remote, baterang-style, through my tv.

Doesn't matter how many villians this show has, as long as Jason'Al Statham'Fred is still involved, I will not be supporting this.

We want cool villain, they give us Pyg. We want source material accuracy, we get Frank Martin from The Transporter playing Alfred.

I typically don't like to use the CBM knee-jerk reaction of "absolute shit" but this show does kinda reek. Which is a real shame cuz it has so much potential.

I'm glad they didn't listen to the fan's whining, because I really enjoy this show.

@HachibiTheMC That's what I mean by whining. This is a new version of Batman's world. You can't expect them to repeat everything over and over again. New world = new versions of characters.

@IMNAvenger
To each his own bro, I respect your opinion. But I was just saying period. A lot of people will go in TRYING to hate a show and find things they dont like which is somewhat unfair. There is quite a bit of that but yeah, I get where you are coming from, the second episode was alot better tho.

Tisha Terrasini Banker--who?

Also, nice one for casting Baldwin as Metamorpho--one of my favorite actors playing one of my favorite characters. :)

You're speaking to someone who literally doesn't give a flying [frick] up a running squirrels ass about you, your opinion, or your definition of whining. Clear?

I'll have to check out the second episode then. I have it sitting on my DVR so I'll give it a second look.

A well-known villain with a 'D' in their name? Harvey Dent wasn't a villain until he became Two-Face...just saying. Here's hoping for Deathstroke.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the 'Magpie' episode. I wasn't too familiar with the character and the nice twist at the end was kind of cool.

The villain with the 'd' is Riddler. They have an episode called "Enigma" later this season.

For those who did watch the first episode of "Beware of the Batman," there is a character name Michael Holt who was in the that first story. This is also a major mention to second Mister Terrific.

I'm still on the fence with this show. It hasn't won me over quite yet. I'm still easily distracted with it. Something is just missing with it in my opinion. I haven't quite pegged what that is yet...probably because I'm not engrossed in it.

This show has potential, it depends on how they progress the dynamic between Bruce, Katana and Jim Gordon. The animated style is still too rigid, the characters appear like plastic toys. could do with Batman using the shadows more like in the Bruce Tim Animated series.

@HabitchiTheMC

Three reasons why that comeback didn't work:

1. You didn't ask your parents' permission before going online.

2. You tried to tell me off by sounding tough on the internet. That doesn't work. If you wanna tell me off, think of something clever.

3. You said you don't care about my opinion, which is ironic considering you obviously took the time to address it.
