Once considered DC Comics' version of Marvel's X-Men (despite debuting first), complete with wheelchair bound leader, many a longtime DC reader still have a soft spot for the team. Watch this preview for this weekend's DC Nation short that stars the team in "Challenge of the Timeless Commander". The superhero group previously appeared on Teen Titans and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

It is great to see odd character in DC Universe put on the small screen and the artistic direction they have taken on some.

The anime style Batman shorts were just amazing.

They need to make a Doom Patrol TV show.

@Galaxy - I think "Beware" is fine as is, but a Justice League series, in the style of YJ, would be fantastic.

Keep 'Beware the Batman' for those Bat-fangirls out there and dump the silly 'Teen Titans Go' show. 'Young Justice' needs to come back...much like 'Justice League' came back with 'Justice League Unlimited'.

I've been reading comics since the late 70s and have never heard of the X-Men being a rip-off of Doom Patrol. I would think, if anything, DCers would be complaining that The New Mutants/X-Force was a rip-off of Teen Titans.

I guess I grew up around more Marvelites... If anything, isn't Doom Patrol eerily similar to the FF? Just kidding, I'm not trying to start anything...

They must film short stories in live-action, introducins characters from DC movie universe. Not in animation...

@ Nomis

We all know that Marvel and DC rip off character from each other all the time. I personally feel as though Marvel has ripped off DC more times over the past 50 years or so.
BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 8/22/2013, 9:27 AM
@Nomis - Yes and keep on reading that Wiki excerpt. You'll happen upon the FF similarities...

However, others have noted that the Doom Patrol shares fundamental similarities with Stan Lee's earlier title, Fantastic Four. The original lineup of both teams included four members, who did not have secret/double identities; each had a headquarters that was a public building in the middle of a major city; each team had one member with stretching powers (Rita Farr of the Doom Patrol, Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four), one member with flame or flame-like powers (Larry Trainor of the DP and Johnny Storm of the FF), a member with brute strength and a freakish body, with bitterness at being trapped in it (Cliff Steele and Ben Grimm) and a member who was invisible or stayed out of the public view (Niles Caulder and Sue Storm). Both teams quarreled amongst themselves, unlike most other teams published by DC/National.

I agree LOL! The X Men are awesome unless FOX puts their hands on them.
BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 8/22/2013, 9:29 AM
I agree though that the Doom Patrol needs it's own show though. I enjoyed seeing them appear on the (much better) original Teen Titans one.
BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 8/22/2013, 9:32 AM
Actually, now that it's all said and done, I think Doom Patrol ripped off FF and X-Men ripped off Doom Patrol. *shrug* It hardly even matters now though haha.

I'm just happy that all 3 teams/titles exist.

i bet dc wished doom patrol sold the same sort of numbers the x-men did.

@Nomis - Challengers of the Unknown...What the heck is that? Wow...I had to actually look that one up haha. Meh, all artists derive their creations from some sort of influences. You hear it all the time in music.
BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 8/22/2013, 10:02 AM
Actually I do remember 'Challengers of the Fantastic', but had no idea who the DC team was that they blended the FF with for the Amalgam title.
ABH1979
ABH1979 - 8/22/2013, 10:05 AM
Even as a DC fan, I have to say that it's not about who's first, it's about who's better, and the X-Men have the proven track record. Doom Patrol could probably benefit from a roster change up, since some of the most popular X-Men aren't the originals...

I keep reading good things about Morrison's Doom Patrol, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet...

X-Men borrowed from Doom Patrol which borrowed from Fantastic Four which borrowed from Challengers Of The Unknown which borrowed from from all the pulp magazines and movie serials Jack Kirby absorbed in his youth. There's nothing quite as incestuous as comic books of the mid 20th Century. It all goes back to Jack.
