Speaking to
Entertanment Weekly, director Brad Bird was careful not to give away any spoilers regarding the plot of The Incedibles 2 but did reveal that he's made significant progress on the story. “
I don’t like unwrapping presents before Christmas,” said the
Tomorrowland and
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol director. He continued, "
It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it. [We’re] trying to take it in some new directions. Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself."
The Incredibles 2 is currently slated to arrive in theaters on June 21, 2019. It will compete against the
Justice League sequel (06/14/19) and
Transformers 7 (06/28/19) during the Summer box office season.
