I can't remember where I read it/heard it in an interview exactually, but I recall one of the creators saying they rely on the korra nation viewings more than the nielson ratings for the show.

These last 3-4 episodes has really renewed my hope in this show. The first couple of episodes in the season really let me down but the creators have really really made up for it.
