The first trailer has been released for The Simpsons season 35 (via Toonado.com) ahead of its premiere on Fox next month. There's a lot of footage featured throughout this sneak peek, including the return of Kelsey Grammer's Sideshow Bob and the apparent destruction of 742 Evergreen Terrace!
We also see Homer take on a very different role as a school crossing guard when he's left feeling worthless at work. As a description for the premiere explains, "when his safety squad receives too much funding, the crossing guards become a force to be feared in the all-new 'Homer’s Crossing' episode of 'The Simpsons.'"
While many longtime fans of The Simpsons feel the show lost its charm long ago, it remains incredibly popular and shows no signs of slowing down. It's still fun to spend time with these characters but a little perplexing Disney hasn't chosen to move forward with a new movie.
Despite that, The Simpsons was renewed for seasons 35 and 36 back in January, officially making it the longest-running scripted primetime series in television history.
"This season, Marge experiences a series of nightmares about young Bart's childhood coming to an end," reads the series synopsis. "Homer accidentally volunteers for a school crossing guard position; sixty years in the future, Lisa recounts the story of how Homer was scapegoated for a power outage that plunged Springfield into darkness days before Thanksgiving; and the annual chilling trilogy 'Treehouse of Horror XXXIV' is back!"
While not as consistently great as it once was, there's still lots to love about The Simpsons and those Treehouse of Horror episodes are always good fun. In terms of cameos, we're sure plenty of celebrities will lend their talents to the show this year...provided they did so prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, of course!
The beloved animated series focuses on the eponymous family in the town of Springfield in an unnamed U.S. state. The head of the Simpson family, Homer, is not a typical family man. A nuclear-plant employee, he does his best to lead his family but often finds that they are leading him.
The family includes loving, blue-haired matriarch Marge, troublemaking son Bart, overachieving daughter Lisa and baby Maggie. Other Springfield residents include the family's religious neighbor, Ned Flanders, family physician Dr. Hibbert, Moe the bartender and police chief Clancy Wiggum.
The Simpsons is currently streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, with Season 35 set to premiere on Fox on October 1.
