Earlier today, in a joint-collaboration, FUNimation Entertainment along with 20th Century Fox and Toei Animation announced that the world premiere of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' (in its original Japanese with English subtitles) will be held at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 11th. Tickets for the premiere are now available at dragonballz.com. An English dub of the film has been tentatively set to release this summer.

The film serves as a sequel to last year's Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods and features the return of the notorious Frieza. Additionally, the God of Destruction Beerus, who made his debut in Battle of Gods is also set to return.

One peaceful day on Earth, two remnants of Frieza's army named Sorbet and Tagoma arrive searching for the Dragon Balls, with the aim of reviving Frieza. They succeed, and Frieza subsequently seeks revenge on the Saiyans.

@DrunkenNukem

If the new trailer is any indication, Goku gets his ass completely kicked by Freeza and Vegeta's the one who beats him.

I loved Dragonball, don't get me wrong, but this is just depressing.

They can't move the story forward (GT was a disaster and the power levels have been essentially god-like since Cell, anyway), and so now they're just playing "Greatest Hits" versions of old storylines.

Since Toriyama has been checked out of the series for so long, wouldn't it make sense to try... (I know, I hate hearing myself say it, too) rebooting the whole franchise? If they're going to do Dragonball instead of something new, why not try starting the story fresh, try telling it in a different way.

Goku/Roshi/Krillin focusing on power levels and training instead of madcap fantasy adventures for the first few arcs. Maybe integrate Namekians and Saiyans into a broader, more detailed science fiction context. Maybe time travel gets introduced and utilized more often, and with more drastic consequences. I know it's apples and oranges to some degree, but look at franchise revivals like Tenchi Muyo, Gundam, and Lupin III, where the tone, look, and spirit of the series can be drastically different interpretations of the original manga.

Toriyama's style never looked right to me when it was made in a computer anyway...

I hope that's true! Vegeta is my favorite character on that show.

I just watched Battle of the Gods last night and it was amazing! Far better than I expected... Just felt like the original Dragon Ball, rather than DBZ!

I just hope that after this movie or the next one (?), TOEI makes an story 1000 years later or so in DBverse. The characters doesn't need to have god-like powers and the Saiyans would be just a bit stronger than humans because of the mixed blood.

I'll wait for the blu ray. I saw Battle of Gods in theaters and while it was awesome I was pissed when the blu ray came out and the runtime suggested over 30 minutes were cut from the theatrical release.

Couldn't agree any more. They really need to move past the GT or even DBZ era. smh

@Spock0Clock

As a kid I loved DBZ but now as an adult I look back at it and it has lost it's shine and nostalgia doesn't cover it. I just don't care for the series anymore mainly because there is no real plot or characters in it and all the show became was fights. And the fighting can be nothing but a lot of throwing energy blasts at each other and punching and kicking each other and of course the required 10 min power up scene where everyone must stand around and watch doing nothing to stop it. Looking back I find the original Dragonball series when Goku was a kid to be far more interesting funnier, more of a story then DBZ had, and the fighting was interesting with more diverse enemies and fighting styles.

What is even worse is Toriyama is talking about continuing DBZ after this movie. What is the plot going to be to this new series. Some new all powerful enemy never once mentioned before appears who makes Beerus look like a child comes to Earth to fight Goku. Goku then must train to attain a power never once mentioned before Super Saiyan Ultra God and defeats the enemy. The next arc a new even more powerful enemy never once mentioned before appears who made the last arcs enemy look like a child comes to Earth to fight Goku. Goku must train even more to attain an even more powerful and never once mentioned before form in Super Sayain Ultra Mega God and defeats the enemy. The next arc rinse and repeat. Toriyama needs to stay retired and not try to continue DBZ GT already ran the series into the ground continuing it will just bury it underground.

@Vegeta

Don't hold your breath, Linda couldn't talk in her Freeza voice anymore at the pace required. She's out and not coming back. Besides, Ayers is a lot better as Freeza in his final form especially although Linda works pretty good for his first one.

If Kishimoto were writing this, we'd get multiple flashbacks to explain how Frieza originally just wanted peace but now conforms to the cycle of hate after losing his bonds.
