We're now just a couple of weeks away from One Piece arriving on Netflix, and the streamer has debuted a gallery of character posters (via SFFGazette.com) for the series. As you might expect, the spotlight is put on the iconic Straw Hats.

In the streamer's long-awaited adaptation, we'll meet Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), a rubber-skinned teenager who sets out to become King of the Pirates. As he conquers the sea, Luffy recruits a ragtag crew of misfits to join him onboard, including Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero), and Sanji (Taz Skylar).

Calling themselves the Straw Hats, Luffy and his gang sail from island to island in search of the mysterious One Piece treasure. Of course, no adventure is smooth sailing. On their quest, the Straw Hats run into dangerous rivals who stand in their way of hitting the jackpot.

It's that quintet which takes centre stage on these posters and, for fans of the franchise, we'd say these designs do right by these classic characters.

One Piece also stars Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

Arguably the most iconic manga series ever made, One Piece first debuted in 1997 and has since gone on to outsell the likes of Dragon Ball and Naruto. In fact, author Eiichiro Oda has sold 516.5 million worth of books, making him the 10th bestselling fiction writer of all time.

As an executive producer on the new series, he played an important role in the entire adaptation process, from casting to post-production. The series was created in partnership with Shueisha and is produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners, with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements joining Oda as executive producers.

One Piece will premiere on Netflix on August 31.

Lazy trash. Does the sky ever change colors in this show or is always perpetual sunset?

I've been a One Piece fan for well over a decade now, and after seeing nearly 750 episodes (I know I'm behind), I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this story will never be transitioned well into live action. One Piece is one of those stories that is simply too crazy and convoluted for anything besides paper (manga) and animation (anime). Then there's the length of the story, currently being well over 1000 chapters and episodes. You can't transition that faithfully to live action in any reasonable amount of time.

With all that said, this live action attempt does not look as bad as I thought it would. It does however look fake, which is likely due to budget limitations. Usually, the solution is to simply increase the budget, but One Piece is one of those properties that no amount of $$$ will improve its transition to live action, it's simply not built for that.

@Th3Batman - it does look better than I ever thought it would. The cast seems to be pretty good too. We'll see in a couple weeks I guess

Similar to Cowboy Bebop, this looks very fan film(ish). I never got into the manga or show but I know a lot of people love it so I guess we will see how it turns out and hopefully it lives up to the fans expectation.

I'll be analyzing each Straw Hat Member after the show comes out and if the series is successful, I'd like to see its remaining members adapted!

@FusionWarrior - I want to at least get to Water 7 and Ennies Lobby in live action, IF it turns out the show is good, that is.

@TheFinestSmack -

Let's see how Alabasta works first. That's their first major point.

@DrReedRichards - yeah Alabasta and Chopper will both be the biggest challenges next season.
