Rob Letterman's Detective Pikachu has started shooting in London and now another major addition has been made to the movie's (surprisingly) impressive cast. That is Suki Waterhouse, one of the stars of Assassination Nation, the movie which set the biggest deal at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The first live-action Pokemon movie also features Ryan Reynolds as the titular character along with Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Bill Nighy, and Chris Geere. The plot revolves around Smith's character and when his father is kidnapped, he's forced to team up with Pikachu to find him.

Details on Waterhouse's character are being kept secret so we'll just have to wait and see who she'll be playing and whether it's someone familiar to fans of the trading cards and video games. Among Waterhouse's other credits are The Bad Batch and The White Princess. Stay tuned for updates.

I'm actully gonna give this movie a chance because 1) I LOVE Pikachu and the cast's looking great.

2) This could be a movie testing water, to see if there's interest for a Pokemon Live Action Movie, of course the fandom has and Pokemon Go proved that, but they gotta still test the waters for the rest of the GA.

Like for example i never expected from Godzilla14 to become the starters for a Monsterverse, tho it left me wanting more yet still never expected it, seeing the Detective Pikachu leaked pictures i saw a lot of stuff that i liked, Machamps in WANTED pictures and what could be a Victini in the police force shield it reminded me of how the games and anime environment feels, which is just awesome. I'll need a trailer, of course,to solidify my feelings towards it but i'll take this as a chance to have an ACTUAL Pokemon movie, with Red as from the games that'd be cool and the rest of the gang, have Brock and Misty and you have it, tell a good story, make the characters interesting and the World of Pokemon as immersive as possible, overall make a good Pokemon movie. Looking forward to the trailer and how everything unfolds.

Seeing as we've been robbed of the opportunity to see/hear Danny DeVito voice Detective Pikachu, I really hope (and fully expected to be disappointing when it doesn't happen) they realise the character with practical effects i.e. Ryan Reynolds in a skintight yellow spandex morphsuit wearing a tail, ears, hat and with face paint.

I think this movie gets too much unnecessary hate given the impressive talent behind it. The response might "but why?" but why not make a movie based off such a popular franchise?

@Luigi - It just seems weird to make the first live action pokemon based off of a spin-off game outside the main series. It would be like starting with a mario kart movie instead of something more akin to the main series. Now I know that the mario movie was not good (although I like it for how bad it is), but the point remains, why not just try to make more standard pokemon movie?
