After the unprecedented popularity of Pokemon GO, it was really only a matter of time before a live-action movie was officially announced, and it was recently confirmed that Legendary is set to team with The Pokemon Company for an adaptation of Great Detective Pikachu video game.

Now, Variety reports that Justice Smith (Paper Towns, The Get Down) has been cast in the lead role - presumably a human character, and not the voice of the little yellow guy!

A recent rumor suggested that the likes of Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson were all being looked at to provide the voice of Pikachu, but there's no mention of that here.

Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) will direct Detective Pikachu from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.

Pokemon GO is supposed to make you feel like a real trainer capturing and battling Pokemon and they somehow think a Detective Pikachu movie will be the perfect way to cash in on that success?

OT: JL is alright. A way better Suicide Squad. Character interaction was great, everything else was meh. Flash got annoying quick. Aquaman and Cyborg were cool. The Trinity too. From the first scene, which was sweet, it was marred by the shit CGI. Holy shit was it bad.

Who the [frick] taught Barry how to run? Comical.

That 180 on Superman really didn't feel earned like some users were saying. He was great but how did he get there? Died brooding and came back brooding and all of a sudden colgate smile? Pet cemetery. Superman was a highlight though.
