Harmony Gold, original "creators" and distributors of the Robotech anime are back and looking to continue the Robotech saga. If you're unfamiliar with the history of Robotech, the series was created in the US by combining footage from three Japanese anime, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Harmony Gold combined footage from these three shows and dubbed over the original dialogue to tell a completely different story. In a way, it's almost the first abridged series. According to the information included in the kickstarter campaign, Robotech Academy will focus on the children of the characters from the original Robotech anime, set in the Robotech Sentinels world. Check out the video below and CLICK HERE if you wish to contribute. The project currently has a goal of $500,000 USD and has so far, collected $63.9k USD.

Is it me or does that ROBOTECH Jet have a striking resemblance with the Transformers G1 Jetfire ?

Jetfire was designed based on the Macross Valkyrie mechs, just like Optimus Prime was based on the original Mobile Suit Gundam mech.

And yes, the original Transformers G1 Jetfire toy was in fact a repaint of the Macross Skull Squadron Leader Valkyrie toy.

I'm happy to see this finally posted on this site. I was wanting to see someone post this here and I couldn't for the last two days. So thanks for getting this news more out there Mark Julian.

Also if any one cares there is a game for Xbox One and PS4 that is inspired by Macross. It's called Strike Suit Zero. It is a fun game.

I loved Robotech so much, but come on? Do we really need to see this? -- *** SPOILERS FOR THIS 20 YEAR OLD PLUS ANIME*** I couldn't believe it when they made it back to Earth and after one of the battles Roy is so cavalier about battle and ends up dying. Great show even though it was rather at times. I rewatched Genesis Climber Mospeada part of the robotech series and that doesn't hold up at all. Awful.

Doesn't Tobey Maguire's production house still own the rights to a live-action Robotech adaption? The rumor about Leo playing a lead would be perfect -- Spot-on casting for Roy Fokker. Oh yeah, instead of having every one be children, age them up into their 20s and 30s. Still don't understand why they do that with the majority of their entertainment? The Gundam Wing kids are 14/15 years old and they speak, and act like that? Come on, they should be killed, their psychos and way too emotional.

My guess is they'll probably use the same art team from Shadow Chronicles, just to give it a cohesive look. Also, funny that this just got posted, as I mentioned that Kickstarter in my latest fancast entry......
