ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Star Michael Douglas Would Be Up For Playing A Young Hank Pym In A Prequel

We saw a younger version of Hank Pym in Ant-Man and a full cast list reveals that we will again in Ant-Man and The Wasp. Unsurprisingly, Michael Douglas is hoping this leads to a prequel he can star in...

Some incredible and no doubt very expensive special effects were used to make Michael Douglas look decades younger in 2015's Ant-Man but as technology has advanced yet again since then, it's now feasible that sort of visual effect could be sustained for an entire movie (we know that Ant-Man and The Wasp will feature flashbacks next month so it's clearly something Marvel Studios is revisiting too).

There's no denying that a movie revolving around a younger Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne would be a lot of fun, especially as they clearly went on a lot of adventures during the 1980s. Whether or not such a story would be a priority for Marvel is another matter but Douglas certainly seems to hope so.

"I’d like to see him, if there’s magic, we do movie magic in terms of flashbacks. How about getting Hank back to his prime age as the Original Ant-Man and kick some serious ass?" he said during a recent interview when asked about his Marvel future. "I’m ready. I’m geared. I need a good stunt double. You know, I’ll find him, but you can make me look 40 years younger let’s do the whole job!"

@Madad - Hayley Atwell’s Peggy is honestly one of my favourite parts of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and I’d love to see her return.

@Madad - I really would've love to see her as Lara Croft. Not of the reboot timeline, but seeing her play the original Croft. She would've owned the role.

@FromACertainPOV - I'm hoping for some timetravel/flashback stuff in the next AoS season :)

I liked whoever's idea it was here to have him cameo in a 60's Fantastic Four movie. Even though it'd end up in another time displaced bunch of heroes...

The character of Obadiah also has to return with Jeff Bridges repeating the role.

God yes. I always liked Hank in the books, even though he was misused so very often (see anything with Al Milgrom's name on it in the early 80s).

I was not happy when they announced that Scott Lang was going to be Ant-Man (what a nerd rage I had) and I may not like how MCU deviates and twists original comic characters/designs/plots/genders ect., but I love that they made Hank Pym a normal guy, scientist and the father of a daughter he has with Janet instead of the miserable wreck that Marvel Comics writers made him into over the last 40 years.

i like the idea but it would cost way too much to keep him looking young through the movie.

@grif - What are you? A budget setter for Disney? How the hell would you know if it costs way too much or not? Chris Evans was kept 4 foot 5 and super skinny for 30 mins of First Avenger, and they didn't even know if that movie was going to be a hit or not at that time. All movies are a risk, you set a budget based on what you project the movie will make. Sometimes you hit it out of the park (Deadpool 1 had small budget, made huge bank), and sometimes you crash and burn (Justice League had humongous budget, made very little bank). That's business, not just movie business.

@gulducati - And I'm still very impressed with skinny Rogers 7 years later. May not seem much, but remember that one year earlier Tron had that weird young Jeff Bridges guy (CLUUUUUUU!!!)

Hank has a secret affair with Peggy, then Sharon Stone walks in and does her leg crossing thing, before Halle Berry's Catwoman jumps into the fray.

I actually thought about this one before. They can even have Howard Stark, Peggy Carter and maybe even Obadiah Stane. Marvel proved they are succesfull with sequels, they proved they can make actors look younger and the main lead wants to do. I can seriously not see why this couldn't happen.

And if the FF are introduced in a 60s period piece, they can even add Reed Richard to the science bros (Pym, Stark and Richards), but that's just wishfull thinking

I'd love to see this. You know, it's kind of unfortunate. Pym was one of the original Avengers and a prominent scientist in the comics, but seems to have always been treated as a B or even C level character. He may not be a strong A+, but I'd like to see him get his due.

I'd love to see them bring back Obadiah Stane.
