Adam McKay Comments On Involvement With ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

Ant-Man star Paul Rudd and Anchorman writer/director Adam McKay rewrote the screenplay. While we know Peyton Reed is coming back, will McKay reteam with Rudd for Ant-Man and The Wasp?

Anchorman and The Other Guys director Adam McKay recently made the jump from comedy to drama with The Big Short, and when The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the filmmaker recently, they were quick to ask him about his involvement with Ant-Man and The Wasp. All we know about the Ant-Man sequel as of right now is the fact that Peyton Reed is in talks to direct, but it sounds like Paul Rudd may be writing the screenplay solo if McKay is unable to find the time to join him. "I was talking to [Paul] Rudd about it the other day. We’ll see what happens, but that would certainly be fun," he teased. "I loved working with Marvel. And I have a couple of projects in development. One of them is more dramatic, one’s more comedy, still with a little bit of political teeth to it. And there’s a TV show idea I’ve been kicking around." No mention of Inhumans there (which McKay has been rumoured to be involved with for a while), but here's hoping he finds the time for Ant-Man and The Wasp at least, eh? We'll have to wait and see...

Indeed. Ant-Man was a surprise hit imo. Can't wait to see the Wasp in action. Also can't wait to get the Blu-ray next month.

I just wonder if they'll be able to make another hit. I'm sure Edgar Wrights script had a lot had of influence on the final product.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see exactly how much Edgar Wright's initial involvement contributed to the overall quality of the film. I believe they said they rewrote a lot of it, but I feel like there were probably some very Wrighty undertones remaining in the script that helped the movie be as funny and quirky as it was.

@DeusExSponge

Pretty sure Wrights Script remained intact. All that I think was written was a few lines and scenes like the Ant-Man vs. Falcon or other connections to previous MCU films.

If Paul Rudd ends up writing the Ant-Man and Wasp film by himself, I will be very, very surprised.

Yeah not sure about Mckay being the one you want to bring back, considering most of what would have made Ant Man good is what was kept from wrights original idea, which was most of what was in that film. But who knows, i'm still excited for the next film. :D

@Mercwitham0uth

Not true. Rudd and McKay ended up re-writing 70 percent or more of Wright and Cornish's script. Now, I don't know if that means the structure of the film was altered significantly, too, but the dialogue/actions/etc were changed significantly.

At this stage marvel can do no wrong. Take a shit and slam a logo on it and the general audiences will love it. That being said you can only shit on the audiences so many times before they notice so i'm sure they aren't going to just start making ultra formulaic movies any time soon.

I'm pissed edgar took so long and that's the reason we didn't have Ant-Man as an OG Avenger. Remember, Edgar was the one who wanted Ant-Man to be a stand alone movie. That's the reason we didn't have Ant-Man earlier.

I love Wright's films, but him and Marvel should have split waaaaaaay back at the beginning.

Why does everybody give Edgar Wright the credit for this movie being good? I love Edgar Wright(Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is in my Top 5)but it's been commonly known for a while that the majority of his script was scrapped or at least reworked.
