ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Nabs $11M+ Thursday Night, Tracking In Line With The First GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The early tracking numbers for Ant-Man and the Wasp cements the fact that Marvel Studios has another franchise that other studios would love to have.

The first Ant-Man film opened to $6.4 million Thursday night preview returns but the sequel will gross between $11-$13M.  It's currently keeping pace with the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, which opened to a $11.2M Thursday, $37.8M Friday and a total domestic opening of $94.3M.

Ant-Man and the Wasp opens wide, across the U.S. tomorrow in 4,206 theaters with 3,000 of those locations having 3D showings.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Synopsis:
Scott Lang is grappling with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again don the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy.

Solid movie, funny, great visuals, but the end...WTF. I may have to give up marvel movies. I'm just too weak...sorry.

Sweet, that would be a substantial improvement from the $57 million opening weekend of the first 'Ant-Man.'

Well-deserved, too. A great movie with a chilling mid-credits scene.

Entertaining but very forgettable. Not as good as the first one (which is a 7/10 for me). Some pacing issues but my main gripe has to be Scott's characterization: he seems a LOT dumber this time around, as if the writers felt the need to do that for humor and making Wasp the deadpan, smarter partner. On the plus side, most of the stuff with the Quantum Realm was interesting and Michael Douglas was a highlight (just like in the first movie).

I'd say check it out but lower your expectations, this is far from the MCU's best efforts.

@SwampThing - Agreed. The storytelling was pretty flat. Some entertaining scenes, and Ghost looks incredible in all her scenes, but overall I found the film to be pretty weak.

Great mid-credits stinger, though!

For some reason, I thought the movie was coming out on the 7th (Saturday), and not today. Thought it was coming July 7th, not July 6th. I need to stop getting into bed so damn late all ths time.

Anyways, I have a feeling that this movie is gonna be more or less like the first one. Hope I'm wrong though and that it does exceed my expectations.
