AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY Writer Jeff Loveness Denies Being Social Media Scooper But Not That He's Been Fired

In one of the weirder stories we've reported on in recent memory, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness has been forced to deny he was fired for leaking MCU intel as an anonymous online scooper.

By JoshWilding - May 22, 2023 11:05 AM EST

Last week, it was reported that Marvel Studios has chosen to part ways with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness.

The Rick and Morty alum had been tapped to pen Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after introducing Kang the Conqueror in the Phase 5 opener. However, fans were quick to make it clear they didn't want Loveness back and the Ant-Man threequel's poor critical and commercial performance seemingly sealed the writer's fate.

While nothing has been confirmed at this stage, you have to feel for the writer. He was sent out to promote Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in interviews which saw him repeatedly asked about the movie's negative reception. Ultimately, it felt like Loveness was being made the face of the movie's failings, making it easier for Marvel Studios to eventually part ways with him.

Earlier today, a pretty wild rumour popped up online claiming Loveness is one of Twitter's many anonymous online social media scoopers. This obviously suggests that, while working at Marvel Studios, he was secretly gaining social media clout by sharing confidential details about the MCU (there were lots of Quantumania leaks prior to its release, while we've had a fair few for The Kang Dynasty as well).

Remember, Marvel Studios is in the midst of investigating the defunct r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers/ Subreddit, so it's possible something was uncovered which led to Loveness' alleged dismissal.

For what it's worth, the writer was quick to take to Twitter to firmly deny these accusations. However, Loveness has not denied Jeff Sneider's scoop about being let go from the next Avengers movie prior to the WGA strike.

We're intrigued to see what, if anything this leads to, but the news he'll likely no longer pen The Kang Dynasty has been welcomed by fans. It seems unfair when director Peyton Reed was just as much to blame, but there were major script issues.

@Unites - but Ant-Man bad, boooooooo Jeff Loveness boooooooooooo.

Have people heard Ant-Man was bad? Cause if you didn’t know, it is, and it’s Jeff Loveness’ fault.

That is one of the smartest moves Marvel Studios has done in a while. 🤷‍♂️👍

You'd question why he would do it, if it's true, which might not be the case

But I've seen people in my job, which pays a good amount of wages, commit minor fraud or steal a few hundred quid and then lose their jobs

Don't underestimate people's stupidity

Peyton Reed did the duck and cover approach after the movies release. Not sure he did one interview, lol.

I will watch the full series before I watch the episode. Heard nothing but great things about the show... just fell behind.

Is it an anthology series? Is every episode its own story?

There's an overall story but some episodes are their own thing. Like the episode I told you to watch. It's the story of the first black CEO of Disney and The Goofy movie😐

It's incredible and will be a movie one day. It's sad and inspiring.

The Goof Who Sat By The Door. Highly recommend. It's its own story. So moved by the true story🥲

@Mother[frick]erJon - Struggling to see the "clickbait" here. Loveness has been accused of being a scooper. He's denied being a scooper. However, he's failed to deny or comment on the fact it was reported last Thursday that Marvel Studios fired him from TKD prior to the WGA strike. Seems pretty self-explanatory to me.

The writing was the biggest problem, although not the only problem, with the movie. I wouldn't want him back. Nor Reed. There are plenty of talented filmmakers out there, give some one new a try, can't get much worse at this point.

@MarvelousMarty - can't believe people wanted Peyton for fantastic four. Like his only decent movie was ant man, and almost everything good about that movie was obviously from Wright.
MotherFuckerJon
MotherFuckerJon - 5/22/2023, 11:31 AM
Also: Loveness isn't needed for the weird over the top sci-fi shit. Bring in Hickman as a consultant. He is after all the one responsible for Incursions and everything else the MCU wants to do with SW.

@Mother[frick]erJon - what they need to do is stop going to the rick and morty writers. That shows great for what it is but it doesn't work for a legitimate superhero franchise people are meant to take seriously.

Even though this dude’s MCU writing was not good, it is pretty sad how much he was placed as the fall guy for things that went wrong.

@AmazingFILMporg - To be clear, he deserves all the hate he gets for his terrible writing. But for some reasons it seems like the sad state of modern MCU has been mostly blamed on him.

I honestly think the dude did what he was told to do - add in Ricky and Morty multiverse wackiness and make the Ant Man series “bigger”. Sure his writing was crap, but he did what he was directed to do.

And he didn’t write a bunch of crappy Phase 4 projects. Personally, I think that Thor 4 was far worse than Ant Man 3 (which was also bad BTW). And several of the shows were worse too.

I am glad he was removed as writer for Kang Dynasty though. I think we just need all the former Rick and Morty people removed from the MCU. They’ve all been crap.
