SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Star Jim Carrey Rumored To Play Live-Action M.O.D.O.K. In A Number Of MCU Projects

Hulu's animated M.O.D.O.K. series is unlikely to return, and it's now being reported that Marvel Studios has live-action plans for the villain...with Jim Carrey set to bring him to life on screen!

Over the weekend, moderators on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers Subreddit shared a rumour that's reportedly been verified (rather than just submitted to the website by some random user). That doesn't mean this is "official" information, of course, but it comes during a weekend that also saw multiple leaks from the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home!

Regardless, take this with a pinch of salt, but it's said that Sonic the Hedgehog star Jim Carrey has been cast as M.O.D.O.K. in "multiple" Disney+ TV shows from Marvel Studios.

The actor has had something of a resurgence in recent years, with the aforementioned video game adaptation putting Carrey back on the map in that blockbuster realm. His performance as Dr. Robotnik received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, and the movie was a box office hit.

While not verified, it's noted that his M.O.D.O.K. could appear in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but it sounds like the villain will debut in the upcoming She-Hulk series. That would be a good fit for a character as weird as this one, while Carrey's facial expressions arguably make him the perfect choice to play someone who is essentially a floating head!

We'd love to see this happen, but it does sound too good to be true. Patton Oswalt recently played a stop-motion version of M.O.D.O.K. in a Hulu TV series, though we're expecting that to be cancelled after its first season due to it being a product of the Marvel Television era of storytelling.

Do you think Carrey would be a good pick for the MCU's M.O.D.O.K.?

One of the antagonists is Dracula, so they might be teasing that for the Blade film.

Don't mind me....

Appearance in She-Hulk??

Could MODOK's origin be related to what happened to Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk?

Horrible choice. Unless this is a massive reimagining of the character, I can't see this working. Jim Carrey is known for his physicality in incorporating his movement into his comedy. Why tf are you making someone like that into an immobile giant head in a chair? Just bring Patton Oswald back.
TheGrayGhost
TheGrayGhost - 11/1/2021, 12:00 PM
@Origame - Part of his physical comedy is having a very expressive face that he has well control over for his acting/impressions. As long as the voice he goes with isn't horrible, this isn't such a bad choice.

@Origame - If I had to venture a guess it'd be that since there isn't much physicality to someone like MODOK then they're casting for someone that can rubber face with the best of 'em and Harrison Ford turned them down?

Never liked MODOK.

But i'm not immune to a certain wackiness, i always loved Mojo or Sugar man for example.

@Doomsday8888 - I never was into this character either. My son loves the Avengers game that is on PS4 and MODOK plays a big part in that story. The near-MCU style of the characters gives you a good idea of what they could do with this character. Done right, this could be rather interesting. Done wrong, well, then we have another Hector Hammond from the Green Lantern movie.

''moderators on the Subreddit shared a rumour that's reportedly been verified''

I just can't get it inside my head that something on reddit is reportedly verified. It's reddit, just because they are moderators doesn't mean they can't make shit up.

Anyway, I can see MODOK show up, but I think they'll ditch the name.

@bkmeijer - it basically means that mods on reddit dont allow posts unless they are shown evidence in some way. so that mod who allowed it, was given some sort of evidence that was good enough to get it on reddit

dumb system but it is what it is.

at first i thought it was so dumb.... but the more you think about it, the better it gets

jim carrey would make a great modok.

i would like to see him do his 90s era comedy, but i also want to see him be really serious as evil in other scenes. if marvel balance that, i think it would be incredible.

modok is a giant face... so its perfect

MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/1/2021, 12:08 PM
I can't see Modok not looking ridiculous in live action so I hope Jim or whoever else is cast as him crushes it.

Maybe instead of being a floating head he'll be Zola's brother and rather being a big back tv he'll be a flat screen. Bad joke I don't care

@MyCoolYoung - I can imagine George Tarleton as a gifted child participating in a Hydra program. A program created by Zola. They are monitored by Zola through screens.

They are Generation Z.
